    Don't touch my bike!

Why do people think that because my bicycle is parked next to my desk in my cubicle that they have a right to come in and start messing with it? Every day I park the bike as far back in my cubicle as I can and every day a slew of people come in and want to pick it up to see if it's light or...

    Question for dads...

So my wife has just presented me this option for Fathers' Day... Round Trip tickets from here (Washington DC) to Denver for a 4 day weekend of biking, etc,... She knows Colorado is my FAV spot for riding and this gift would be great as I wasn't able to make it out last year. Problem...

    BC Bike Race

Just saw this in BIKE mag. http://www.sevenbikerace.com/ A seven day mountain bike stage race from Victoria to Whistler. Anyone planning to do this? If I ever make it out to Seattle (permanently), I hope this is still going on. Sounds like fun. I've liked the idea of mtb stage races...

    Fixed gears can't stop

So a judge has just ruled in Portland that fixed gear bikes need a brake because the rider is incapable of stopping on their own. http://bikeportland.org/2006/07/28/judge-finds-fault-with-fixies/ I ride a fixie, and mine has a front brake, but I know many people who can stop just fine...

Happy Birthday, Kyle (ssaddict). RIP Bro.

Hope you're out there somewhere tearing it up. This place is not the same without you. Today my thoughts and prayers go out to your family who once again remember you on your birthday. Save some of that trail for me. We'll ride together again, someday. Rest in peace, old friend.

Anyone going to the Satriani / Johnson show?

I decided to do a local search for concerts I might want to see and found that Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson are coming to Baltimore in a couple weeks. (Yeah, I'm out of the music scene) I've seen Joe 3X and Eric 2X, and they always put on good shows. But since I moved here from AZ 6 years...

    Illusion?

Found this little illusion on the web yesterday and started discussing it at work today. This thing has us baffled. Anyone want to try to take a stab at how this is possible? We've read they're description of the solution, but we're not buying it. We've drawn the thing out on graph paper...

Web help? Files are reverting back (FTP)

Okay, so here's the deal... I'm trying to update a website. Our team just got an eighth rider, so I had to update our riders page to reflect that. Got it all set locally, and uploaded it to the web. Brought up IE and checked it out and it was fine. 5 minutes later, I go back and the page...

    Crested Butte

Heading out to the Butte again tomorrow from out here on the 'wrong' coast. Flying into Denver and shooting down tomorrow night. So we know of a bunch of rides that we need to do from previous trips, but is there anything that we need to hit? Obviously, I'd love to hear some of the locals spots...

UPS, FedEx, Etc,... who do you use?

Okay, I know this has been gone over again and again, but I'm sick of this sh!te. How do these companies stay in business if they keep losing my stuff? Is this happening to everyone else out there too? What's the deal? I ordered some prints last week(Monday morning) from some digital media...

Popped my MIG welder cherry today

Just wanted to let everyone who cares know. I layed down my first three welds today using a MIG welder at our park maintenence shop. I just asked if he had an extra helmet so I could watch him do a few, and after he did one, he handed off the gloves to me and gave me the welder...

    Wheelbuilding - Art or Science

So a recent post reminded me of a discussion I've had with friends / fellow mechanics, etc,... Is building a wheel for a bicycle art? Don't get me wrong, as a cyclist I think the wheel is a beautiful object, and a photograph of one might hang on my wall if taken in a way to make it look nice...

Skate 'park' in DC needs help

I'm posting this in the lounge because, the more people who see it, the better. A buddy of mine has been busy all winter volunteering his time and energy to building a new skate park in Washington DC. The group building it even went as far as getting grants from Tony Hawk Foundation and another...

Mass storage device for Digital Cameras

Okay, before I go out and spend a whole bunch of money on a bunch of memory cards, does anyone know of any device that can be used without a PC to upload Compact Flash or other portable memory types to? I'm heading off on my honeymoon in two weeks and wanted to take my digicam. I've got a...

12 hours of Wisp or Lodi Farms

So I've raced the 12 of Lodi Farms before, and have been looking forward to racing it solo this year, when I see a flier for the 12 hours of Wisp. Great! 2 12 hour races within driving distance from DC! Only problem,... they are the same weekend. One is Saturday from 9am to 9pm(Wisp). The...

Bicyclists should not be allowed on roads.

This is not by any facet, my opinion. A friend of mine mentioned this article to me yesterday on a ride, and I thought some of you monkeys might be interested in reading it and responding. I know this kind of attitude infuriates me. Here's the link...
