now you like country music...

you get sadder by the second mate... get a clue :)

partsbara - #1 country music hater...

You'll be singing a different tune when you get "stationed" in Hawaii yourself hoss. Have you been to either place? Or do you just follow your wife places?

The new Tim McGraw song is really good. I listen to country about as much as everything else. The one thing that it has going for it around here is it doesnt get overplayed because we only have one station compared to two pop and two classic rock station. Kenny Chesney is really good too.

Look for the Hank Williams III song "I put the D!ck in Dixie and the C*nt in Country"

It was funny when I heard it.

actually they are 2 of the few places that i haven t been... but IMHO a clown would choose TN over hawaii... enough of that tho'... i ve let my opinion be known...

oh and yeah, i prefer to follow my wife places... it s real great when she lets me ride my bike... sometimes i m even allowed to hit jumps without calling her for permission...

Houston Marchman didn't care for TN for his country music -

VietNashville

I was just 22 when I hit the road
Searching for truth, passion, and gold
I had an old 6-string, beat up and cracked
Hitched all they way and I wasn't coming back
from Nashville , Viet Nashville

I hit town in the middle of the night
Walked 16th, stared at the light
My sould was on fire, passion it rose
I had a young man's dream but I was an old man's fool
in Nashville, VietNashville

CHORUS
Gotta little harder there every day
Texas got farther and farther away
from Viet Nashville, yeah Viet Nashville

Well I started pushing my songs and knocking on doors
Most everyday I felt more like a whore
A man said, "son, son you gotta write
For an 8th grade level divorced housewife
in Nashville," VietNashville

He said, "It's about money boy, money in the bank
Country ain's into no existential angst
Write for the cash, not for the soul."
Right then I knew man I's bound to roll
Outta Nashville, VietNashville

REPEAT CHORUS
VietNashville, VietNashville

Yeah, I found me this friend, I called him ponytailed Johnny
Had hair to his ass, the pot made him melancholy
Got us in this gig down on lower Broadway
He told us bout a joint man, they never could pay
Us in nashville, VietNashville

We'd play em our songs, we;d play em some covers
Their favorite tune was "Redneck Mother"
We got fired one night down in (?) 4th set (?)
To get out alive, I'd've lost that bet
This big biker chick, she grabbed Johnny's hair
Never seen a woman get hit by a chair
Hell, 'cept nashville, VietNashville

Ten years later in the middle of the night
Skipped out of town, but I was feelin' alright
Nashville, I owe you a lesson in life
Stand up for yourself and what you thinks right
Play what you feel play it straight up
If you don't hear a sing man I don't give a ****
about Nashville, VietNashville
VietNashville, VietNashville

Neither did Cory Morrow ("Nashville Blues"):

Late one morning I just packed my things
Burned all my bills and I hopped on a plane
I told the cops and the bankers goodbye
They said Don't let us catch you, you owe us your life

Well the plane was headed east and so I was
Bound for Tennessee to outrun the fuzz
They found me in a day or two
Now I'm flat busted in jail fightin' the Nashville Blues

Chorus
I like George Jones, Willie and Waylon
I think Kris and Merle are songwriting saviors
Townes Van Zandt, he died to soon
But now he's up there with Hank
And they're both fightin' the Nashville Blues

Well the songwriting's left up to old hillbillies
Hippies and rednecks and girls like Miss Emmylou
I'm too young to have a point of view
But I just want to be a part of fightin' the Nashville Blues
Fightin' the Nashville Blues

Chorus
Fightin' the Nashville Blues ain't fun no
It takes it's toll upon your mind
But all the great ones have been there too
And they're all fightin' the Nashville Blues
Fightin' the Nashville Blues

Well I moved back to Austin to try to make a living
But it ain't been so easy with those hill country women
And i'm stuck inside of this 8x12 room
And my throat's a scratchin' from the cigarettes and booze

And my face in wrinklin' and my mind's a strayin'
And I get on my knees and I get to prayin'
But my hands are worn like the soles of my shoes
And the Lord only knows I'm just fightin' the Nashville Blues

Chorus
I like Johnny Cash, Willie and Waylon
I think Chris and Merle are songwriting saviors
And old Keith Whitley he died to soon
But now he's up there with Hank
And they're both fightin' the Nashville Blues

Well the songwriting's left up to old hillbillies
Hippies and rednecks and girls like Miss Emmylou
I'm too young to have a point of view
But I just want to be a part of fightin' the Nashville Blues
Fightin' the Nashville Blues

Hank III opened for Dwight one year. He kicks ass. He sounds just like his Grandpa, but better. I have said before, what's not to like about someone singing "Put the dick back in Dixie, and the cunt back in country"??? I need to get his newest cd.

Not to mention - he did Cocaine Blues.

edit - I notice he must LOVE Curb Records. hahahaha

He's a strange one, though. It kind of taints the ablility to listen to music when you know how people are off stage. I have a few bands like that.

I heard an NPR interview with HIII. Pretty damn funny. At one point he was talking about drinkin' smokin', etc. I forget the exact words but it was something like "I was talking with Merle Haggard and he said you might want to slow down a little with the drinking son. And I thought to myself, if Merle Haggard thinks I have a problem then I must really be in bad shape."

It was obvious Curb thought they were going to sign another Tim McGraw with Hank 3. And to Hank3's credit, he could sing some bullsh*t Nashville and be bigger than McGraw and LeAnn put together. Instead, he plays his own music at these 1,000 person clubs trying to make rent.

I wish I still had my Hank3 account, but there some Asian dude at the last Portland show who was holding up a "Fvck TIM MCGLAW" sign...

Bluegrass, as in the style of music first credited to Bill Monroe and his bluegrass boys, and continued with the likes of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Beppi Gambetti, Doc Watson, and integrated into new music such as Bela Fleck and the flecktones. Many would consider it country, so I posted that I liked it even though I myself don't believe it to be country music.

Also, y'all check out BR549 and if you haven't gotten down with the Reverend Horton Heat, you need to asap. I like H3, too. He plays bass for Superjoint Ritual w/ Phil Anselmo.

I don't know if these guys are country, country rock, bluegrass, newgrass or whatever, but the Avett Brothers are freakin' great!

www.theavettbrothers.com

They opened for BR-549 and really were the highlight of the show.

Edit: Pop country sucks ass.

Here is all you need to know about "good" and "new" Country music.
-Jason and the Scorchers, Webb Wilder, Horton Heat and Hank 3 rule.
-Brad Paisley is the real deal. So is Chris LeDoux, RIP.
-Shania Twain should have her voice box removed, and a pole installed onstage. If it werent for slick production and music video, she would be a stripper back in Ontario.
-Toby Kieth needs to be buggy whipped, along with all the other pretty boy poseur idiots. Like Kenny Chesney. And Rascal Flatts. Ugghhh.
Most of the rest of them can eat my ass. Uhhmm, Shania...
