i dont want to sound like a weeny but i am 193lbs and bottom the **** out of my v10. my sag is correct and i have a 450lbs spring with 145psi in the shock. i literally have a pile of broken chainguides. any ideas from v10 owners? i have used srs, lg1 and srs plus chainguides and destroyed them all!

Spring is way too light....I weigh 165 and have a 500 with 150psi....then again, on the pre-2008 version I ran a 450 spring.

What version V10 do you have? this current version (carbon upper link) runs a higher spring than the older version.

Im over here now
we need to know what gen V10 it is. on the original V10, i had a 500lb spring on my Avy and i was around 200lbs at that time.

my setup: 2008 V10 with Vivid and 500 lb/in spring. LG1.

I rarely bottom out and never hard. Damping has a big effect on bottom outs. Are you running much compression damping?

With regards to breaking chainguides, I don't think any 40T or less chain guide can hit the ground even with the suspension bottomed out. I would bet your landing on a rock with the chain guide and you still will regardless of what spring you have.

Is that 193 lbs ready to ride? I'm 200 lbs and my riding gear averages 14 lbs depending pad selection. Had my DHX PUSH'd and they recommended 600# or better to obtain proper sag, 600# ended up being the correct rate.

I still run a SRS guide since I'm always clipping rocks at Snowshoe, I'm afraid I'll destroy my LG1.

Hey Brian:

Push recommends a 550 to 600lb spring for Richie - i would imagine you both weigh about the same.

sorry, I forgot to include that I am 200 pounds, no riding gear. probably around 215 with gear.

There is absolutely NO way that is the right spring for you. I barely weigh 155 with gear and the 450lb spring is almost too light for me. I guarantee you are running close to 50% sag with that setup. Do what you obviously need to and step up to at least a 550 600.

This may have very little value because I ride a 2005 model, but I have a CCDB on it and run a 500 lb (Ti) spring - and I only bottom it out on the hardest hits. I probably weigh around 195 lbs with gear on. That said, I like to run at least 40% sag, but even so, it feels like I still have plenty of preload adjustment left if I wanted to run it stiffer or with even more sag. So I say get a CCDB and run lighter spring :thumb:

how are you checking your race sag?

here is the setup chart from SC. RS also suggested the 500 for me as well. I am running 40% race sag.

^Eye to eye length measurements and a little math. I am pretty sure that is the recommended method for the V10.

I am running a DHX if that matters.

According to the chart he should be on a 500 or 550.

For reference: I am 165lbs with gear on a 2009 V-10.

I run a 550lb spring on my Vivid which is the stock V-10 "C tune" shock. I also run nearly full compression.

The reason for the 550lb spring is to balance better with the 8 inch travel fork in the corners and make the bike more responsive.

My V-10 basically is a eight inch travel bike with two inches of f@*k up. Works awesome!

I have the 2009 V10, with the DHX5, i weight around 175lbs and i'm on 500lbs spring, bottom out allmost closed, and 150psi.
I hardly bottom out with this setup, but i use all the travel.

If you weight 193lbs you should go with the 500 or 550lbs spring.
