Would there be a downside to using a King 68/73 mountain bottom bracket on my TR450 which has an 83mm BB?

been there, tried that.

The cups will fit fine, but the center sleeve won't be wide enough, obviously. I've run Shimano external bbs without the sleeve on my trail bikes before with no issue.
You won't have a seal on the inside of the bearings, but it should "fit."

nice to see just the sleeve available. i might have to pick one of those up now.
CK does also make a "real" 83mm BB now too
