Say what? So let me get this straight, we are buying expensive libyan oil and shippping it to the US, refining it here, then shipping it back to libya to use in bombers. Wow, american efficiency at its finest. :thumb:

NDIA article

The Defense Logistics Agency buys military fuel for $2.82 per gallon. But that same fuel can cost $13 if it’s shipped by ground to a forward-deployed location, during peacetime. If it’s transferred in-flight from a refueling airplane to another aircraft, the gas is $42. If troops are in hostile areas, prices can range from $100 to $600 for “in theater” delivery. The Army estimated fuel can cost up to $400 a gallon if the only way to ship it is via helicopters.

It's a global marketplace for oil. Shipping in the civilized world (as opposed to war zones) is cheap comparatively. Don't act so surprised.

Why is this hard to believe? Price includes delivery. Guess what, it takes a lot of fuel to drive tankers around the desert and pay somebody to get shot at.
Yes, it costs $40/gal to deliver via a KC-135. That's pretty easy math.

You know, you're right.
We should just buy the oil FROM Libya while fighting Libya. Clearly that would work. Any politically-motivated break in the supply chain to forward-deployed troops certainly wouldn't be an issue in any of those middle eastern countries.
