Travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada will be required to have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports. This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.
But a passport will cover all your bases.Transcend said:Make that a driver's license AND birth certificate now.
And is a lot easier to carry. I used to use it for bars and **** when i lived in boulder too as they wouldn't recognize a quebec medicare card (our official ID) or drivers license. They had to get the book out etc..it was a major hassle.Pau11y said:But a passport will cover all your bases.

It's jarringly similar, yet strangely different.Curb Hucker said:So you mean America Jr. is not part of the USA

If I recall correctly (but this was pre-9/11), my wife had hers rushed and it was about a week. Totally depends on the passport office. Some are busier than others.BMXman said:so how long does it take to get a passport? I leave for Canada the 28th of July!....D
Yeah...you run with that one!ioscope said:You don't need any ID
To go to Canada...
Any felony conviction disqualifies you from entering Canada for (I think) 5 years. Then you can fill out some paperwork and pay a fee to show you've been "rehabilitated." I have a friend who had this problem. Got convicted of something when he was 18 and then, when he's 30, it comes back to bite him in the ass at the Canadian border.dexter said:yea when we got to fernie to ride or lefbridge to party you need an id and sometimes a student id (other from of id) to get over. make sure you have a clean record dui's no go sma ewith drug charges. they knew everytime me and my buddies had gotten i n toruble including **** that had been dropped in court

I think the same stuff goes for entering the US as well.
Wow! Ten years! I didn't realize it was so long.MMike said:More like 10 years. I know a guy how lives within spitting distance of Whistler on the US side. But he's not allowed into Canada because of some past indiscretion. Of course he could fill out a few forms and all would be peachy.
Yep. We don't like you trouble making americans coming here and causing us grief....Lex said:Wow! Ten years! I didn't realize it was so long.

Whoooooaaahhhh ... hold on a minute there buddy. I got a DUII 8 years ago. You saying I can't get into Canada now? I'm headed up there in 2 weeks. Anyway to find out if one can get across prior to the gate? I'm assuming the Drivers Licence and Birth Certificate will be fine.dexter said:yea when we got to fernie to ride or lefbridge to party you need an id and sometimes a student id (other from of id) to get over. make sure you have a clean record dui's no go sma ewith drug charges. they knew everytime me and my buddies had gotten i n toruble including **** that had been dropped in court
Maybe if you got a DUI in Canada and it was never resolved. Dudley Do Right will arrest you.BuddhaRoadkill said:Whoooooaaahhhh ... hold on a minute there buddy. I got a DUII 8 years ago. This can be true, it is coming back that can be a problem. I had some friends that only after begging and a complete car search where allowed back into the US because all they had was their MI drivers license.ioscope said:You don't need any ID

You will likely be asked to report to the immigration office in the airport when you attempt to leave after retrieving your luggage. I have a MISDEMEANOR that is 8 years old and I have been stopped at the airport the last 2 years. Once in the immigration office they will determine if you are employed, have enough cash to last through your trip, and that you actually have a return flight. Then they will charge you 200 canadian dollars to enter their wonderful country. This whole process will take at least an hour.BuddhaRoadkill said:Whoooooaaahhhh ... hold on a minute there buddy.
