Lately, I've been trying to find mods to make my all-moutain bike feel more like my DH bike, and dialing in the head angle seems to be a good place to start for me. The problem I've had is getting an accurate measurement of the HA without blowing a ton of $$ on a tool I probably won't use that often. Luc posted up a link for a cool looking inclinometer made by Wixey, but those run about $40. On the other hand, you can get a cheap dial-type angle gauge from almost any hardware store, but their accuracy (and clarity) is mediocre at best.

Enter the iPhone (and all of the d-bags like myself who actually like these things). They've got a cool application in the Appstore that has a really slick and very accurate inclinometer that you can download to your phone. Cost? $0.99. Search iTunes for "Clinometer" or check the Top 50 paid Apps - it's currently sitting at #35. You can zero the thing on any surface so that it gives you an accurate measurement even if you're not necessarily sitty on a level surface, and it uses the iPhone's built-in accelerometers.

he he... I got that + Units on my iPhone. Awesome tools to have in your pocket at all times.

a new one just came out yesterday called "TiltMeter" - not sure how it compares to Clinometer.

You get taught trigonometry at school yah? Tis how I've always done it.

1) drop a plumb from the centre of the top-crown, mark where it touches floor.
2) Hold a long straight thing against the fork, mark where it touches floor.
3) Measure distance from center of top crown to floor
4) Measure distance between two points on floor

head angle* = invtan(measurement1/measurement2)

* in radians, multiply by 180/PI to get it in degrees.

Yeah I know it's not the simplest thing in the world, but it's not exactly tricky, and doesn't require an iphone or any expensive equipment. (FWIW I have an iPhone). I just thought i'd post it here for those who don't know and don't have an iPhone.

Someone needs to make an iPhone application to keep bike suspension setup data - I think that would pretty cool. Especially if you own multiple FS bikes...
