I might be the last person on earth to hear that Lopes is racing the classic this year, and i'm going to put my money on him. Not sure if he has the knowledge of the trail down but should give weir a run.
Shep better have killed it in the XC today, then he may have a chance at overall, as that skinny Canuk can DH pretty goodI might be the last person on earth to hear that Lopes is racing the classic this year, and i'm going to put my money on him. who's gonna take downieville?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAChrist, I hope it's not the british. We just had independence day and all. I'd hate to have to go dump a bunch of tea in the yuba river.

Ross Schnell for Trek VW took the XC, DH and all mountian with a new course record
Benek finished about 30 mins off the lead... lost his rear derailleur out there somewhere.Bummer for Weir to suffer a mechanical
New Nomad looks sweet tho..
how did Jurgen Beneke do?
They also had a bright cherry red one built up stock with all black parts at the SC expo area, it was really, really sweet. Next to it was a lemon meringue yellow V10 with a white 40 and black parts that also looked insane. SC is stepping it up big time with their newly revised models. With their new powedercoat colors, I felt like I was at Marie Calender's trying to choose which tasty pie to eat. :biggrin:Bummer for Weir to suffer a mechanical

Based on his GPS data, Weir was on pace to run a 42:XX when his wheel blew up. When we weighed in Saturday morning I noticed he was running WTB XC wheels and I was afraid he might be pushing his luck a little. His complete Nomad weighed 28.2 lbs IIRC and had a single 38t front ring and an 11-32 cassette. To get down that trail in 42 minutes you have to go so amazingly fast there's no way an XC wheel could hold up to that reliably. There are just too many rocks. He was running a DHX coil with Ti spring so that could help with preventing both rear flats and blown up wheels...at least hypothetically.Just got a phone call from somone who raced and they told me the top 5 was this:
Ross Schnell
Jason Moeschler
Nathan Riddle
Myles Rockwell!!!!!!
Brian Lopes
Heard Shep was riding great but had flats in both XC and DH.
Not sure on the exact times but I think he said Ross was just under 45 minutes.

well this year he lost the crown...Either way, there is no Question Weir is still the all time king of the Downieville Downhill. Nobody knows the trail better.
My goal was to complete the all-mtn in under 3.5 hours total. This was before I knew they added sunrise which supposedly adds about 10-12 minutes on top of last years course. I ended up with a combined time of 3:36:25 (if my math and memory serves me, official results won't be released until tomorrow at the earliest.) I don't know yet where this puts me overall in my class but I think it will be 7th but possibly 6th. But I made my goal and I'm really stoked on that.werd -
Now I can see everyone rushing out to buy the new king of Downieville. Even offered in rootbeer
how did the Reign X work out for you?
Was Ross' time this year faster than Mark's last year? I think it was new record. I want to say Mark ran a 46:XX last year but I'm not positive. So I guess you're right. Next year will be gnarlier even, I hear Adam Craig is considering coming out and I'm sure there will be other contenders as well!well this year he lost the crown...
that needs to be quoted...I also heard it was a new course record, but I also think some of the re-routing on Butcher makes it faster, so it's hard to compare.
So yeah major props to Schnell for smoking everyone. To me Weir is still The Man "up there", but it's in the same way Sam Hill is still the man despite not winning the rainbow stripes this year.
Overall a super fun weekend, as usual.
That's intense.that needs to be quoted...
yeah Weir pretty much rules Downieville - I'm sure he would have had a smoking run had he not flatted.
Ross's run must have been pretty bad a$$. I was reading the SRAM press release about D-Ville and he said: "The record course runs feel really good, because Mark Weir had an open course, while I started 43rd and had to pass 9 guys. I ate dust the whole run, but I did it. I am so stoked"

Nathan had a CTi moto wrist brace on, as did Ariel. All those top level AM guys are such bad ass "mountain bikers".Was suprised to see Nathan Riddle in 3rd place. He had a cast on for a broken bone in his wrist the day before he left for d-ville, Nice one, Nate!
Was that the dude on the Rock Lobster with drop bars? That bike looked really cool, but using it for that race is friggin'Harlan Price in 9th on a 29er hardtail is pretty impressive.
