Although it seems like I have new road bikes a few times a year the reality is that I usually can't keep one longer than a few weeks.
I need to build a bike or two that is mine.
Stuff I want to build to keep:
-I've already got a single-speedable CX bike lined up that I'm using as a test platform for the new 44mm external tapered bearing setup and PressFitBB30.
I don't care about the tech ****, but this will be the first CX bike that I've ever had that will have bottle mounts, hozontal deraileur hanger drops that facilitate single-speed use and a bb low enough to make it a fun road bike.
We have an asinine amount of dirt roads around here, and although I usually ride the hell out of them on my race bike it would be nice to have a bike that I could pay less attention on. Since my fitness is absolute garbage a bike that I could race singlespeed class on would be great. If i don't train I only have one speed, semi-fast so I might as well capitalize on it.
People also love all the above-mentioned characteristics, so it'll make a great marketing tool.
-A fendered aluminum bike w/discs to use as my commuter/winter bike.
Because I can, because I need one and because if we build one I think that people would want to buy them.
When the new batch of stock race bikes are done I'd like to keep one for myself, but something makes me think It'll move out from under me pretty quickly.
Stuff I want to build for ****s and giggles:
-A tt bike. I love aerodynamics and ergonomics and there is a surprising amount of aero tubing available in aluminum right now. I'm looking for the right customer for one. Going full-bore dialing their position in the wind tunnel, using our Retul system and working geometry magic to make the bike handle well is all stuff that I'm good at. I've got a college degree in that stuff that I haven't used for years too and I want to refresh myself before it all goes to waste
- A lightweight project bike. Our stock aluminum frames are already super light. If I beg/borrow/steal some lightweight parts I could easily get one down to the high 12's. A complete and total lack of funds is going to make this a pipe dream.
What are you guys jonesing for/hope to build up this year?
