i have a little trouble getting my front end up...im wondering what is better for getting the front end up.... a shorter stem or a longer stem ? i think mine is a 70mm
well I'm running a 60mm but changing to 50mm for better control. just remember the shorter the stem, the stable the front is at climbing. it will cause the front to wander as you climb, but give much better control at speed when going down. i don't climb much, so to me i'll live with a wandering front end.
I rescently went from a 110mm to a 90mm and am now wishing I had gone with a 60mm. As a general rule, shorter stems will allow you to throw your weight back farther, thus making it easier to do manuals and such.
It's not the size of the stem that matters,It's how you ride the bike! All kidding aside.... I run a 50 on my Blitz II, a 50 on my Giant STP, and a 70 on my trail bike. 50's are perfect for all but climbing. If you have a short top tube, you might have to stay with a 70 for trail riding.
