Silverton Mountain to Host 2nd Annual

Downhill Frenzy Mountain Bike Race July 17&18 2004

Bike racers challenge amazing new trails at Silverton Mountain

July 5, 2004 Silverton, Colo.— Silverton Mountain, the newest venue for lift served downhill only mountain biking will be holding a race for the experienced mountain biker looking for a freeriding challenge. Similar to the skiing at Silverton Mountain, the downhill mountain biking includes steep drops, tight switchbacks, and many big air opportunities. This year the mountain has added a new bike park with huge jumps in which the race will take place. Excellent aerial viewing opportunities are available via the Silverton Mountain scenic lift ride or from the base area. The entry fee covers racing, 2 days of lift rides and a free beer from Ska Brewery after the race. The two-mile downhill course covers 1,900 vertical feet on the steepest course around.

There will be a worthy cash purse for first place and great prizes for 2nd and 3rd place. Classes of racers will be determined on race day, but all skilled riders are welcome! All racers will be entered in a drawing to win great gear. Bring all the body armor and good brakes (as your going to need them).

This same racecourse plus many other downhill/freeride trails can be ridden all season long for only $15, so show up in advance if you want to experience the thrills of summer in Silverton.

Silverton Mountain is open for the summer season Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 9am – 3:30pm weather permitting. Save $5 when you pre-register for the race at Pedal the Peaks or Silverton Mountain. Registration on Saturday the 17th is $35 and starts at 9:00am. Riders will attend a mandatory practice day on July 17 and the race will start at 9:00 July 18.
