I'm sure you're right, I've never met the guy.

I just remember him coming over the line at Monte Sainte Ann and just riding past his team mate (who was in the hot seat) like a spoilt brat. Gwinn's expression said it all.
Ok, so you have a crush on Gwin and you're angry at Blinky for treating him bad. Get over it, you're not his type anyway.

I'm just psyched to hear about schusler hitting the world cups. good luck joey!
This is the most important topic I've taken out of this thread. Another American with some serious support going to WC races. I think that's the biggest thing holding US riders back, experience.

Its expensive to fund a trip to Europe to race a track you've never been at and try to qualify. Then race a bunch of guys who've ridden it 50+ times in the last 5 years.

So another congrats to Joey.

The biggest thing I read is that they've got enough money to pay for 3 World Cup riders in the budget next year. Graves makes a little on the side from other sponsors, gets a little assistance from the Olympic program back home and Yeti gets to front a US product piloted by TWO US pilots. I'd say Damien's job got a little less tedious too. Who's the backup QB if Gwin goes down?

For the amount of time Gwinn has been riding he's obviously got more potential. Plus consistency on a wide range of courses. The money saved on Blenkinsop will be appreciated I'm sure. Plus he seems a little arrogant.

Bummer his riding was the highlight of the yeti Podcasts... I could care less who he rides for beyond that.

If you've got a resume handy, fire it off to Yeti post-haste. God knows why they've persisted with their current TM for so long when a gentleman with your fine eye for man-management and team dynamics is waiting in the wings.
I was thinking about it but their bikes are a disaster so I'll stay in the porn industry for now.

It will probably be GIANT
and I heard the amount of money he is asking GIANT is really, really, ridiculous. But he can demand it, because he is the best guy they are going to get and GIANT wants a higher caliber rider than the current top 50 they have now.
I heard the numbers for another rider rumoured to be on Giant.....pretty LARGE considering this guy isin't a real podium contender. Made me think DH wasn't so deep in the dark ages! Ha, the thing giant must be keen on with Blinky is the fact that he sells bikes minus results, then he also gets reults. So ++ basically.

On that same note, a female french rider told me at interbike of one USA DHer that was shopping around and he was asking close to six figures! Leading me to believe like you-maybe not so deep in the dark ages.

Ha, It could very well have been the same Frenchie who told me! Any ideas what kind of team infrastructure Giant will run if they do have a bigger/better DH programe? Something to rival Trek?

these are the kind or rumors I like hearing... though it is hard for me to believe as I am sure it is for you Stik.

But good things are happening with DH right now. It is no where near the late 90's but it is headed in the right direction at least.

I think it is great since the bikes, the tracks, the riders, etc all bring so much more than we had at the heyday of the sport.

Ya, well sounds like people are 'asking' for a lot of coin, ballsy moves, and it is not saying they are all 'getting' it. But just like in the mid 90's when rumors were rampant of people getting paid or asking for tons of money, it sort of upped the ante, which is good-but on the other hand if you get coined as the 'guy who asks for too much', then it's possible potential sponsors may never even approach you.

It's all a big silly game, a lovely season.

and yet if one does not ask for more than your value, you will certainly get less.

Way off the mark, obvious by the number of people that disagree with you. When he beat hill clean at his own track back in 2008, I don't recall blinky even mentioning his name or being remotely smug about it. Big respect points for that, I mean he just beat (like it or not) the best DH rider in the world on a track he'd won at for how many years? I don't think any of us could manage that. The win or the modesty.
