Not exactly a huge name in the cycling world, but an interesting character who made a name for himself by winning the Race Across America 5 times and setting the 24 hour distance record. Definitely a legend in the ultra endurance side of the sport. Killed by a car while training for the Crocodile Trophy.

Radiolab is one of my favorite shows; I remember the segment with Robic pretty well. Crazy stuff; he basically pushed himself until the point of hallucination (demons chasing him, etc) and then he and his crew used his hallucinations against (for?) him. Can't even imagine that...
