I messed up my knee hitting a rock without kneepads on last august. It now hurts like a mofo after EVERY ride. Riding road it kills after a day of DH it is even worse. I am looking for something like a knee brace to wear during the season. Does anyone have any suggestions? I also am not going to drop 500 on the ASTERISK knee brace.

Dancin' over rocks n' roots!
saw a dr. a few times. always say nothing is wrong. they did xrays never done a full scan.
Get your Dr. to send you to a specialist. I just went through this and it sucks! Went to my regular Dr., he sent me for an X-ray, didn't show anything, I told him about the pain and he sent me to the specialist, got a CT Scan and found out I had a badly torn menisucs and a nice hole in my patella. Surgery a week later, PT and now I am wearing one of these and slowly working back. It sucks, but atleast my knee doesn't hurt anymore. I would seriously suggest getting it checked out by a specialist...good luck!

medford, or
my sophmore year in hs. i crashed my bike and tore my acl clean from my femur. tore my mcl and smached my miniscuses into bits, and broke my knee cap into 5 pieces. i couldnt walk for two weeks. i went nine months before i went to a specialist. doc had to cut my knee open twice to fix everything. because i waited so long all my baseball scholerships were revoked. meaning of story is to have it checked soon. and a good knee brace cost me 1500 dollars.

Towing the party line.
See another doctor, your doctor sucks. If you are in that much pain, SOMETHING is wrong. Xrays don't show much in the way of soft tissue damage. That is what all the other fun machines are for.

Sorry to spam kind of, but call 303-939-8349, which is the fix bike shop. Alex the owner has a pair of brand new asterick braces he needs to get rid of. Not sure how how much or what size. You could also email him at alex@rhythmcycles.com.

See a doc, get an MRI, sounds like you may have some torn cartilage roaming around. If it's cartilage all they would do is a scope, it's not a big deal, you'll be out for 2 weeks, the rehab consist of bike riding, just keep it chill and do not fall. I had it done, it has been great since.

I just went through the same thing...initail x-ray only showed stress fractures in the knee, went back later and got an MRI done and found out I had completely anihilated my acl, tore my miniscus, torn cartilage, and partially torn mcl. I ended up having surgery and am slowly getting back into doing stupid stuff again. A knee brace only works if you know what is wrong. Different braces do different things. The asterisk braces are there to prevent a catastropic knee injury like a torn acl etc. Find out what is wrong first then go from there.

got to agree here... i f'd up my knee a few years ago and faught through the pain for an entire season of racing (though it hurt so bad i pretty much sucked at every race)

that winter i got an MRI and found out i had a torn meniscus (this is what is usualy the case when people say they tore cartilage). had it scoped and was walking the next day... skiing in 4 weeks later
