Question about using a 1 1/8" fork in place where there was a 1" fork.

I have a GT Outpost bike with RST 381 CL forks which to me are crap. The fork has a threaded 1" steer tube. There seems to look like enough room a 1 1/8" steer tube. So I like to know if I could use a better fork with threadless 1 1/8" steer tube?

Most likely the head tube on that frame will work with a 1-1/8" fork, but you will need to get a new threadless headset as well if you want to change the fork.

Thank you.I have had about 6 others on other sites say no. I plan on buying a cheap 1 1/8" headset and try.

A 1 and 1/8 headset can't fit. It won't be possible to use a 1 1/8 fork either. It would be like trying to fit a size 9 foot into a size 6 shoe.
