I don't think so... DH development has slowed down quite a bit. For example, a 2000 M1 would still be considered a half-decent bike nowadays (2005), but a 1995 model anything being ridden in 2000? Don't think so...DH biker said:

I thought then and still think now it was a great trail bike. The only problem I had with it (besides no disc tabs) was the shock location. You only had about 1-1/2" of seatpost adjustment.

This was a super sci-fi all aluminum job with mag wheels, integrated cranks, disc brakes and kooky suspension, designed by Alex Pong/Magic Motorcyle. According to First Flight it was shown in 1993. They were never produced and I don't even think they ever had a working complete bike. Vaporware at it's finest.

Here is on of my favorites, an old kawasaki, and an old full suspension from Thick Bikes. Notice the latter has horizontal drop outs. It was designed for use with a nexus hub.

Sweet, thanks for posting man. I have been waiting awhile to see these. The geometry seems to work about 1000x better with that fork. good to see they made you a stronger seat tower and got you a new sticker kit too. You have no idea how much i asked for a stronger seat tower....

The frame was nicolai, the shock was made by nicolai. The bike design was fair enough, the shock however was a total pile of garbage...I was just learning the basics of damper units in general so when I took it apart I had no idea wtf I was looking at. Karl (nicolai) left me with a box of spares, I used them up in 2 races, I was then having everyone and anyone try to repair them at every race. Hers actually blew up while she was warming up at the worlds, but she still won, with v brakes, no damping, no chain guide...yeah, Proud ;-)

On another note, anyone remember the Crossland frame? 4" of travel rear, looked kinda like a San Andreas. Plus they made their own fork, a 4" travel beast with super-big (for then) stantions, and an unheard-of 4" of travel. That was one of the coolest bikes I can remember seeing back then...couldn't find a pic on google, anyone have more luck than me?

Ya, I would actually love to give it a ride like that. Seems like the geometry is MUCH better suited to the short fork. I have them exact angles to use and lengths - all they had to do was take into account the fork height. Guess it never happenned.RD3 said:

My first FS bike was an AMP (B2?). I cracked the weld on the seatstay in like 6 weeks. Got a whole new frame. Cracked the headtube about one month after I got that frame. Dude that sold it to me kept hyping about how you could just rail stairs and wouldn't even feel them.
While waiting for my 3rd warranty frame I was talking to the guy that owned another shop. He just happened to also be the #2 guy at Marin back then. He offered to get me a Marin Ti Team FRS for a super good deal. He told me it was the same frame that Earthquake Jake was running and he never broke his (I found out later this wasn't exactly true).
That turned out to be my first DH race bike and oddly enough after blowing out all my elastomers (again) I still hadn't sold this brand new AMP frame so I raced it at a few races and was blown away by how much better that pinner little coil shock felt compared to the elastomers.
My buddy still has that bike as far as I know. I should go take a picture of it. Ti marin frame, ano red Machine Tech brakes, the first Ringle Superbubba hubs, Mavic Energy touring rims, Ringle stem and Mobey post. I was (and still am) a chi-chi whore!

Ah the Helen, GA '94 dh course.... That would be the place to find all sorts of roachie bikes... Like the Miyata's Herbold was riding at the time that were hardtails with the back end sawed off, some bushings brazed on, and an elastomer up by the seatstay. My 14 yearold mine was utterly confused when HB described doing this in his garage to me... The bigger bike, like the one BCD posted up in his show booth was similarly made out of a rigid front triangle, but the shock was made by Arlo Englund.
