Biggest culprits these days is unregulated diesel engines and coal fired electric plants. Those technologies (if you can call them that) have seen the least degree of refinement of any.
Unfortunatly the sheer volume of them still means that they are the second biggest source of pollution in the world. And hence a significant problem. (Biggest is American Industry, third is Chinese Industry)

Has nothing to do with political party affiliation.....besides, I have never once said where I am registered, nor have I said where I have voted.

What it is, is this.
An initive to assist the rest of the world in coming to grips with the reality of who's economy runs this show.
Once you get over that hump you can start on the remainder of the 12 step program.
Don't you have a JBA (jealous bitches anonymous) meeting to get to? Osama is holding a seat for you.

Careful what you wish for.
Our industry produces damn near everything the rest of the world consumes.

Your economy fails to exist without ours.

I'm talking sh*t-can the internal combustion engine all together and find a clean alternative. There are many that are stuck in infancy.

Like my Panasonic TV? Or my Nissan? Or my Sony Playstation? Or my European network equipment? Or my Sony laptop (OK it has a US CPU) Or my Fuji digital camera, or my New Zealand furniture, clothes, housing and food? Hmm, actually I'm looking round now trying to find something manufactured in the US.... Ah, I have a Microsoft mouse.. Oh, wait, it's made in China...

The point is, the US may have the biggest economy in the world, but it is not the world economy, as you'd love to think. Europe, Asia, South America and China would be perfectly capable of getting on with thing is the US were to drop out of existance.

I know, before the Star Wars geeks come out of the woodwork, that wasn't Boba Fett with the thermal detonator, it was Princess Lea...

You continue to amaze me with your short sided grasp of the world. There are two sides to economy, consumer and producer.

Who do you think that the single largest consumer of goods produced world wide is? What happens to that world economy when the single largest consumer drops out of existance?

Do you know the 5th largest GNP in the world is? California. Its bigger than China's. The US is still the largest if you remove California.

Again what in the blue hell do you think happens if you remove that. Let me explain it very simply... It would be better if a gigantic asteroid hit the earth and blinked us out of existance.

i dunno if i'd call them 'monumentally more efficient'..

a 1984 Honda CRX HF scored a fuel economy ratings of 51 in the city and 67 on the highway.

compared to the 2004 Honda Insight which gets 60 mpg city/66 hwy.

Dude, you are a little up yourself.. There are only 250 - 300 Million Americans. Even though you do consume way more than your 'fair share' of resources, it really wouldn't be the end of the world if America ceased to exist.
Sure there would be a period of economic crazyness whilst the world readjusted, but "It would be better if a gigantic asteroid hit the earth and blinked us out of existance"????

Dude. Get a grip. "Oh, No! How can I go on without America? I'd better top myself now!"

Feeling a little self important today?

You're confusing cleanliness with efficiency. Two different measures that sum to environmental friendliness. For the purposes of Middle Eastern politics, efficiency is the only one that matters... and diesels are actually quite efficient. Additionally, efficiency gains in IC engines hasn't been anything special once you factor in the increased engine size and vehicle weight that has occured over the same period.

CRONKITE: KARL ROVE BEHIND BIN LADEN TAPE?
Sat Oct 30 2004 16:31:19 ET

Former CBSNEWS anchorman Walter Cronkite believes Bush adviser Karl Rove is possibly behind the new Bin Laden tape.

Cronkite made the startling comments late Friday during an interview on CNN.

Somewhat smiling, Cronkite said he is "inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing."

Interviewer Larry King did not ask Cronkite to elaborate on the provocative election eve observation.

No my statement was not hubris or narccism (and no I am definately not full of myself) it is a reality, well at least as real as a literary device can be. And really its no more hubris than saying the world economy doesn't need the US.

The point which was painfully lost on folks, is that the world economy might not be based solely on the US but the biggest single percentage is. The loss of that percentage is something that WOULD cause long term and as close to utter chaos as could be. Any model that you would pull out the US literally collapses immediately and the "period of readjustment" isn't a year or two but decades if even that. Life as folks know it would cease to exist, well except for those tribes scattered world wide that have little or no contact with the outside world.

And it isn't simply the loss of the US that would cause it but the loss of any of the top 5 GNPs in the world would put a serious crimp in the world economy. But none that would come even come close to the extent of losing the US.

I won't pretend to know, but here is one thing that I can't stop thinking of. When I told my mom what Moore said about W's first company that was funded by Bin Laden family money, she said, "they used to be friends". I recall him saying 1986. I recall reading that OSBL says his hatred started with Lebanon in 1982. I also recall him being a CIA operative after 1982. My head hurts from thinking that he was/is in bed with the politicians that we continue to support.

Burly Surly - please PM me your real name so I can write you in tomorrow. Sorry to start your campaign so late.

People get killed and raped and tortured every minute of the day and no one cares. The only reason any of us even have an opinion about any of this is oil. Oil isnt gonna change and the US isnt gonna drop out of world markets. Whats gonna happen is more people are gonna get raped and killed and tortured. Why? Because humans are pretty crude animals once you take away a few layers of society. The people with more layers will need to kill or beat down those with less until a relative equilibrium is reached. To us, they are bad, to them, we are bad. Don't kid yourself and think they deep down know they are wrong and we are right. Most of the people in their terrorist camps have been taught from day one by every human being they've ever come in contact with that there are some evil people in america who must be stopped. Why would they ever even learn to question that, given their situation? Why would they need to question that and what would they gain from questioning that in their situation? We are always looking outward....As are they.

This doesnt mean we send them fluffy kittens and hope they smarten up, but it doesnt mean that many of them aren't victims of a greater sickness. If they threaten, wipe em out, but don't pound your chest about it. We're just on the team who has more players and thats the only reason we are "right" and think we are "right."

Ever noticed how EVERYONE IN THE WORLD except Republicans don't want Bush to be re-elected?

The Europeans don't, the Japanese people don't, The Russians and Africans don't, South America doesn't, even terrorists and human rights groups agree on one thing, Bush should not be re-elected. Poll after poll in the rest of the world comes up with 75-99% of respondants 'against' Bush.

Somehow, the Republicans can just shut this out. Everyone else in the world (literally) including a full 50% of their American peers, is wrong.

Republicans - WTF?

As I suspected, they wouldn't let me write in Burly Surly. Something about not being a real name. I said it was as good, since Bush is not a real person, but they still said, no go.
