-"his pics remind me of when there used to be bad ass cameramen on the MTB circuit."
You mean Fearon, Dawson, Spomer and Gordo dont cut it.
Maybe if some of the companies paid with real money it would be different too.

what about sven martin? his sh!t's pretty freaking dope. i seen it dirt and decline.
I have not seen a heart stopping pic in a MTB mag in years. Maybe because the pay for a MTB pic is 20% off a frame, or free subscription to BRIN.

ok, 3-4 of those HOT, the rest...meh. Nothing that I haven't seen the mtb guys do.
To each his own I guess...I know a few of the MTB shooters are bad ass, just wish we could see their work more. Like I said, the mags suck ass at compensation so we rarely get to see the good stuff...just a bunch of hobbyist that call themselves "pros" and work for free parts.

Gee Stik, you need to pick up a Bike magazine some time. Every issue has pics that IMO are equal (or better) than those in terms of photographic quality, artistry, etc.

Or is it just MX guys jumping higher that winds you up?

Exactly. It's a hell of a lot easier to take a picture of someone jumping a dirt bike 2 stories up in the air or throwing up a 15 foot roost then that of someone on a mountain bike.

I've always liked this shot:

Quality wise, that pic isn't that great, but the intensity is amazing. In a higher resolution, or a larger photo, i'd bet it's much sharper. It's almost as if you don't know if Peat is gonna crash or if hes just railing like crazy. Unfortunetly, we all know the end result...The mad roost looks sweet, too.

I have never seen subjects like this in a photo from an MTB race. The only one that comes close is the pic from the Maxxis trailer (if you know what I mean).

Anyone who says MTB photography sucks hasn't seen a Bike magazine lately. The past 2 cover shots have been amazing. Sterling Lorence is an incredible photographer.

Agreed...just cruised down to the local rag shop a bit ago. The Bike cover with that horizontal carve looks great.

Yeah there are some way cool pic's there, great lighting( sunlight), problem is -at least on the east coast- we never seem to race on sunny days.

No offence but shooting those motor bike pics at really good angles wouldn't be hard at all. Wide open, flat ground, no trees in the way, dudes going round and round in circles all day hitting the same thing over and over again. If you couldn't get a good shot you would have to be a total moron.

DH on the other hands has trees, a mountain, tight corners, spectators etc etc to deal with in the shots so it is alot harder to get them framed well.

None of those moto pics particulary inspire me, it's not that hard to twist the throttle and get some nice roost coming out the back of the bike :eviltongu

Between a rock and a hard place.
I have two favorite bike racing images.

Myles Rockwell in the yin-yang helmet at the Kamikaze (the photo that made want to get into DH)

The photo of Curtis Keene pedaling away from carnage (Sam Hill and a few others) in his wake in the BB MtX.

Dont have either one to show ya though....sorry

I'd rather see a photo in the mountains than a picture of some man made mud pit anyday.........

Three Things:

First, you've never seen my girlfriend....
Second, Those girls are ugly, they are pro whore with beat twats
Third, Pro whores go to MX races for one reason: there is $$$money$$$ in Moto...girls at DH races are there because they want to be despite the lack of dudes getting fat checks....

The girls in the maxxis trailer were beat ho's too though...

My point was that a moto race is way more of a show. When was the last time the person handing out the trophies at a national was someone other than some dude triing to be funny while ragging on people's names.

Heck, they interviewed 3 indy car drivers that went to a supercross race a couple of months ago and they were blown away at the production level. Production level, including podium girls, bring in fans, which brings in $$$.

I really need to capture the video I have of Jamie Little jumping up and down on the podium at Wisconsin after she podiumed in the sport DH. That was nice.

And yes, there are hot chicks at the Big Bear National.

I also agree on the Maxxis thing. At least that's what it looked like to me.

Now let's see a pic of you girl at a National since you brought it up. :thumb:

I agree with everything you say....but it all comes down to money...the reason there are no chicks at DH races is because there is no money in it....production level and podium girls bring more money in but cost more in the first place...catch 22...look at nascar(lamest sport on earth) huge production...sponsored by huge companies(UPS Home Depot Viagra) then look at us....Norba doesn't even pay pros, no one sponsors anything...

i have no pics of my girl at nationals...she went to Durango with me last year, and depending on school she will probably go to deer valley, and hopefully even the open

the only reason there are hot chicks at big bear is because it's near socal...

there definately are waaaay too few "heart stopping" photos in the MTB scene. yes there are a bunch of great photos in BIKE magazine & DIRT...but still too few & far between that REALLY get me in the urge to ride/race my bike. BIKE tends to be on the "scenic" side of the spectrum...which is totally cool. but they both have seemed to get more into the freeride field...which i'm really not into & actually puts me out of the mood (no offense). Don't get me wrong...they both kick ass!

However i think a lot of people in this forum & in this forum thread are looking for that "jaw dropping" race photo. I appreciate the people who dig my photos, but i'd have to admit...it's been a while since i've truly taken a "JAW DROPPING" photo. I've slacked off a lot & need to get back into the "perfect shot" mode! lol.

i was digging through my galleries from this last season & found a few really cool pics. a few that really got me in the mood to shoot more photo & actually get back on the bike & ride/race again. Here's one pic (Ross Milan) that i really liked. i need to do a bit of work to it to get it exactly what i'm looking for...but i think i'm going to make this into a postcard (to send to potential clients)....unless i get something better at Sea Otter.

I also found a couple of cool pics from a Supercross race I attended in Anaheim earlier this year. I can see why you get some sick ass shots in this industry. the guys are amazing to watch. tons of skill, tons of speed, HUGE jumps, lots of action, great courses....basically the exact opposite of MTB right now! haha

Anyhow....not "Heart Stopping" photos...but it gets me in the mood to get shoot for that type of photo this season
