Yes! My friend bought one of their records (yes on vinyl) and got it on his computer and we've listened to it in my car. It's some amazing stuff.I checked out Mogwai after you recommended them a couple of months ago and I've practically worn out my copy of "the Hawk is Howling" ever since. They absolutely blow me away.

there's also a song from one of his soundtracks on disc 2, and a Marc Ribot song too. love those guys.Forgot to add, I'm so glad you put the Bar Kokhba Sextet on there. John Zorn is an amazing composer and musician.
i think that it's a problem w/ the rip...i liked the mp3s i 'found' so much i coughed up the $60 for the last copy of the tiny (450 pressing size) reissue i could still find. when i listened to the vinyl, it sounded about a half-step faster.sweet jeebus, "khala my friend" is ridiculously out of tune.
the guy's singing sounds on-key to me. it's the background guitars that make teh baby jesus cryi think that it's a problem w/ the rip...i liked the mp3s i 'found' so much i coughed up the $60 for the last copy of the tiny (450 pressing size) reissue i could still find. when i listened to the vinyl, it sounded about a half-step faster.
guess i should have looked harder, some of it was hard to concentrate on thru the image. i do know who the melvins and mudhoney are, but no on the neil young...
Just for interests sake - REM is on my companies approved list of tunes that will not offend most listeners. Safe for work.Wow... R.E.M.'s entry is a blast from 1983! I may have to look into their album if it's even 1/2 as good as the tune you included.
Destroyer is band i just got into this year, when i got the newest cd sent to me for reviewing. the main guy (dan bejar) also sings w/ New Pornographers.Destroyer ? Blue Flower Blue Flame: Seems like a good song waiting to be covered by someone who is past their creative peak but still marketable. I like it.
this is a band my buddy got me into...i wish i'd seen them when they played this past year. it's Tod A's project, and sounds much different from his old one (Cop Shoot Cop).Firewater Borneo ? Kicks Ass. Reminds of the Stooges, guitar reminds me of Jockey full of Bourbon by Tom Waits. I like it, I like it a lot.
absolutely. the singing can put people off, but they are a really fun live band. The Hold Steady - Constructive Summer, Bruce Springsteen meets Husker Du?
nice find! malkmus is pretty funny in that vid.
bill geoffrier is the coolest dork ever. love these guys. glad to see them back on stage again.
they were going to play a small club this year, but a power outage killed that...a guy offered up his band's rehearsal space a few blocks down the road, and so an impromptu gig was set up...a handle of Beam, a 30 pack of bud and some guitar amps and the Boogie was ready to go. they played two songs (one of which was a cover of VU's "Sweet Jane") and it took 'em about 70 minutes. they do put the Endless in Boogie. click for more pics.Endless Boogie - They MUST kick ass live, I like the song.
great pop band...this is The Bats w/o frontman Robert Scott.Minisnap made me want to break out an old Smiths LP.
less garage than the 'Mats, i think. another band i wish i'd seen this year.Lights out for Darker Skies is a cool song - (The Repalcements?)
another nice youtube find. i agree that Jojo hasn't equalled any of the ML stuff, but he still writes some decent stuff from time to time. saw him early this year and it was a very good performance.I was big fan of the Modern Lovers in the late 70s - long after the band broke up. Since then, every time I hear of something new by Jonathon Richman, I am hopeful but nothing he has done since then measures up for me. At least this gives me an excuse to post this again...
not that i know of, but i think Andy Cabic has lent vocals to some Devendra Banhart songs.Roll on Babe is a good song - the singers voice sounds familiar, is he formerly of any other band?
they are a rock band unafraid to rock. kinda rare these days, it seems. if you like their haggard take on the blues, also be sure to check out Come (90's boston band). The Drones - The Minotaur - Like nothing I've heard before & I immediately like it. First one to make it to my play list.
this is Ethan Miller's band, an offshoot from Comets on Fire. he's got that warm SoCal feel down pat.Howling Rain seems like a band I need to see live. I like their 60s Haight Asbury vibe - never heard of this band before, my favorite so far.Rick Rubin cannot be wrong, I'm going to order both their CDs tomorrow.
