I think we should just have a few "gatherings" this year !
Everyone meetup somewhere, at: BIGFOOT or ETSU or where ever.
Just drag it out with each other{no crybabies},ride & have fun..Kinda like a raceday but NOT..
Does there really have to be a RACE for people to meetup.Yeah there are prizes, but you also pay an entry fee too.Kinda retarted sometimes.$20-$35 to try & win back a tire or a mug & all that waiting around,etc....Just skip all that & let's ride people.Save the racing for Nationals............

I like that idea, in fact Chuck and I are trying to figure out a date to put on a jam at his MtnX track. The only real problem I see with these gatherings is there are folks who only do one or the other when it comes to DH and MtnX.
That and some just want to RACE. I would have a tough time dragging my kids to a biking event if they couldn't race or compete somehow.

yeah, probably so. I guess it's like all the motocrossers just practicing all day goofing off.... With no BIG gate start & everyone hammering for 20 laps it would suck !! ....
I just would like to see LOTS of participants & spectators like everyone else would.Hey there was this drunk chick at the last Bigfoot race hollering & coming up with some funny quotes when everone zoomed past..A little LIFE is needed like that..yeah that's fun sh--t......Totally quiet sucks..I'm gonna bring by ghetto blaster !

The only problem with having an open event is insurance. Unfortunately, there are some who would rather sue and see a course demolished rather than take responsibility for their own actions.

Besides... Juan is working on getting thins together for the series and you know ETSU and Knox will be part of the action!!

I think race attendance would go way up if more drunk chicks showed up. :thumb:

I was out at BIGFOOT today & it was perfect-especially now that the START is about 100 yards up the road..
You bust into a nice smooth sprint down that smooth road, & over a small log w/o dirt on top {i went around for now}straight toward the OLD starting area pile of dirt...Bust a RH turn right over that & then it's same as before..
It is 10x better & it's not over so quick.Seems like a whole different experience !
I was doing complete runs at :55 timing myself.. Old course i was doin :35
Definately the longest- best course in the southeast. It looks like there is some clearing started on the sides for more spectator areas ..
Ahhhhh, we need to get up there. Love that course.
I gotta get my daughter back on it too now that the collarbone is all better.

If Jaun or someone doesn't get a proposal together soon then Windrock will be a venue this year. Joey has made it clear that unless things change from last year he will not allow the use of his trails....Blammo :oink:

Yo B. What is Joey mad about?

It is getting to the point that I won't be doing anything this year, or try to get something going for a fall series. You will have to come up on thursday at least once to get the swiss ball/ Medicine ball routine. It will be sickening!

I hear ya Terry. The sad part for me is I have been doing way more of that than I have riding. With all the races crapping out maybe we can have swiss ball balancing tournaments. :blah:
I hope these races get hooked up, I am ready to go.

What's the moto-x scene like these dayz ?
$20 a day between a user fee & 2-stoke fuel + oil every riding day though ?!
But instead of doing 5-6 runs on a 4x track by yourself every time you ride, maybe do about 50-60 laps ripping it up on a CR250 ! 0-60 pretty quick !

The mx scene is big. Practice fee's range from $10-30 depending on the track. If your in eastern TN, there are several tracks within a few hours. Some are better than others. If your looking for a bike I know where a nice 02 CRF450 is for sale.

Comments regarding the Cane Creek DH race at Dark Mountian.

The course will be similar in length and design to ETSU & Charlotte. We are currently working every Saturday to finalize the course. Just put in a 8 foot table top today and a couple of nice berms. Next we plan to put in a couple of man-made drops, few little kickers here and there, improve two existing jumps and possibly a cool log garden.

The course already has a nice little rock launch that throws you into some tight off camber turns. In addition, as long as the Ranger's approve, we will have a pretty cool finish. The course pops out onto a walking track where picnic tables will be set up to add a little flare for the specators. The last table will launch you down a hill towards the lake which should result in a 5'-7' drop depending on how hard you hit it.

That said this will definitely be a course ideal for mtx/dual/slalom (whatever you want to call them) bikes.

The course should be a lot of fun though not Windrock but fun none the less. Still working on acquiring sponsorship for the event but so far we have more than $3500 worth of prizes for the two day event (DH&XC). We also secured a timing system that utilizes chips which hopefully will work!!!

Anyone interested in assisting with the development of the course can check out our website at http://brushymtncyclists.tripod.com/ . Meeting times will be posted on our forum. No need to bring any tools the Army Core of Engineers has hooked us up with plenty.

I guess I'm a bad monkey cause I only check this site every now and then. However I do regularly check the BMCC site so you can usually contact me via that site, I'm the Mountain Bike Coordinator for the club so email & phone number are listed.

Hope everyone will come give our course a try, I truly believe you will enjoy yourself. :thumb:

We have definitely been putting in the hours. This last weekend we had four individuals that worked for nine hours straight and three individuals that worked about 4 hours. We definitely got more accomplished than anticipated. I finger 2-3 more Saturaday's and the course should be completed, hopefully. I post some picks when everthing is finalized.

Butch, when do you think Wolf will be open? I've never been there and can't wait to hitted it up. I hear its got some pretty steep sh#t.

working on it. Orville sold off the 5 acres right dead center in the middle of the ski slope to a developer to build condos on. The only positive to that is it's the 5 acres above the 3/4 station on the quad. They're gonna build a tunnel UNDER the slope to get to them????

Orville still owns the land directly under the lift and a wide buffer on both sides of it so we haven't lost "much" terrain. But they are wiping out SO MUCH land up there it will blow your mind. He's keeping us in the dark on what he's gonna do...but he hasn't said "NO". We've still got plenty to work with.

Where is this place you guys have been working. My parents have land in Alexander County so I'm up that way periodically. I wouldn't mind checking it out one weekend...

We're building at W Kerr Scott Dam & Reservoir. It's located approximately 3-4 miles west of Wilkes Community College on Hwy 268. We have a trail day scheduled for this Saturday. Meeting at the Visitors Center (Ranger station) at 8:45 a.m. We're planning to work until noon, go to lunch and come back and ride.

The ride will be basically a XC ride however big bikes are managable. We'll be hitting two different trails, Dark Mtn & Overmountain Victory. Check out our website forum at http://brushymtncyclists.tripod.com for more information and a trail map of Dark Mtn. We also have night rides currently scheduled for 6:15pm every Tuesday & Thursday (weather permitting).

Just a suggestion...

You might want to have a expert/semi/pro racer or maybe even several come out to help you guys build or dig. They can help with the flow and layout from a point of view that has seen a lot of race courses.

If this is being done, then please ignore this.

Yeah, I checked the website forum out. I weeded through a lot of roadie content (not that there is anything wrong with that) and found your workday posting along with some free porn someone posted up there. I'll try to get out there and check it out. I would come out this weekend but I'm obligated to a Wilson's Creek ride (weather permitting). Keep up the good work!

The course is already layed out since we had to get approval from the Ranger's prior to being able to commit to Cane Creek. Hopefully it will flow pretty good. We would definitely welcome any input as far as jumps and drops and what not. If there is anyone in the area with expertise with these please let me know. I'm guessing on a lot of stuff...which could be good or bad!!!

Just wanted to give an update on the CC race at Dark Mtn. The DH course is coming along pretty good with hopes of completing it by the end of the month. Regarding the prizes we have picked up a couple more sponsors which brings the prize total to around $4200. We still have a couple more sponsorship targets that haven't said no yet...it would be nice to have the total give away around $5000.

Later...

Not yet but hopefully soon...we hit a small snag and have had to redesign one area. We should have it approved this week and starting cutting it this weekend. I'll try to get pics asap.
