I'm trying to order a helicoil kit and inserts for M5 bolts (the common ones that are on about 20 different places on the average mountain bike, disc brake calipers, star nuts etc). The person I'm ordering with says I need to know the thread pitch. I was under the impression that this was implicit in the M5 designation but apparently not. Anybody know this?

M5 x .8 is the actual designation.
M6 is 1.0

You hardly ever see anything other than one pitch per size in metric. It's very common in SAE.

That's why I thought is so wierd. SAE is usually full of those hassles but not the metric stuff I'm used to on bikes.
