i'm guessing he burned holes in the vertical square tube and then made a big gloppy mound of goo-glop welds trying to fill the holes.

or he's doing ugly ass buildup and he'll grind the mess smooth.

all that aside though it's a pretty table.

I welded that one area three times. the welds you don't see look great of course....believe me, I know those welds look like crap. I may end up redoing the base completely.
