He should rest both knees and go with this...Sorry to hear it. They are doing good things with knees these days so at least you can look forward to getting back to normal at some point. However if you are serious about it there are faster ways to get back on the slopes.
DUDE! WTF?? That sucks. How bad is the ACL tear?Torn ACL and meniscus. AGAIN.
YAY ME.
Doc says most likely a full tear but an MRI will show how much damage. I had the MRI this morning.DUDE! WTF?? That sucks. How bad is the ACL tear?
Sorry mang. Heal up. You'll be dancing before Spring.
I am already looking forward to knee replacement after retirement if not sooner.I am sure it will give some sort of joy later in life. I have an old injury that is letting itself know once in a while.
Pretty sure a knee replacement is permanent. I'm only kidding (ok, half kidding) about needing knee replacement. From what I've read, I have a greater chance of needing a new knee later in life if I do not get the ACL repaired now. What is the typical effective life span of a knee replacement?
Well plenty of sweet trail and xc bikes to keep you happy.Pretty sure a knee replacement is permanent. I'm only kidding (ok, half kidding) about needing knee replacement. From what I've read, I have a greater chance of needing a new knee later in life if I do not get the ACL repaired now.
I guess this means a lot more biking and a lot less running for me this year, which I know will make the monkeys happy. And certainly not another marathon until at least 2014.

This.Flipping through the channels one day I came across a video of a knee replacement surgury. I have a pretty strong stomach but JHFC that was terrible, surgeon was more of a carpenter: saws, hammers, chisels, etc. I am sure there are youtube vids available today if anyone needs to cut down on their appetite.
Not to mention that to get at the knee to do work they essentially 'de-bone' your leg.This.
A friend of the family is an orthopedic surgeon. He showed me a video of himself doing a knee replacement. Yeah....they are not gentle. a lot more hammering than you'd expect.
What the heck happened? Bad fall? Thanks, everyone! I got the MRI results today. ACL tear, lateral meniscus tear, bone bruising (micro fractures). They are scheduling surgery. I'm kind of happier now...I should be riding again by early spring and running again in the summer.
I tell ya, tearing your ACL is one hell of a painful injury to experience. I got to do it twice!
I wish it could say it was something spectacular, but I hit some ice at a moderate speed and fell trying to turn away from someone. It wasn't a hard crash but an awkward one. I have fallen a lot harder than that without injury. What the heck happened? Bad fall?
Good to hear. I will assume that MBC is actually doing the surgery for you. Thanks, everyone! I got the MRI results today. ACL tear, lateral meniscus tear, bone bruising (micro fractures). Good luck, Phil!Surgery is Feb 5. ACL re-reconstruction, or as the doc calls it, "ACL revision."
I'll be riding again before the snow melts. For this, I am pleased.
