Tony - I rode Hermosa before Nationals one year - it rocks. It isn't terribly technical, but it's super fun and scenic.

If you want GREAT single track do Hermosa Creek, then Kennebec Pass. You can do both these trails as shuttles. (Unless you want to do lots of climbing). Kennebec Pass is still the BEST ride I have ever done.

Doing it as a shuttle requires a 4x4 and a long drive back (or pay a townee a couple of bucks to drop you). You start at 11,700 feet and descend back to town 6500 over 27 miles. From like mile 16 or so to ~21 there is a climb that isnt too horrible, but the last 6 miles (along with the other 14 or so) will leave you grinning for a long time to come. (I rode this trail in 2002 and still get wood thinking about it).

If you are staying in town, you could also hit the trails behind the college for a quck ride. They sometimes run the NORBA's and stuff there. Its called Raider Ridge, bike shopes in town will have the maps. Mountain Bike Specialists, Durango Cyclery are the ones down town (I think).
