So I am looking for a sweet pair of heavy duty hiking boots. Does anybody have any suggestions? I know red wing is a good brand, but that's all I know.
How heavy duty. i.e. how extreme conditions are we talking? So I am looking for a sweet pair of heavy duty hiking boots. Does anybody have any suggestions? I know red wing is a good brand, but that's all I know.
I plan on using these boots for many years. I may even stomp around some construction sites for fun.How heavy duty. i.e. how extreme conditions are we talking?
Comment deleted. I Looked at garmont first. It came up as ski boots, and then I thought he was just doing that to fvck with me. But then I double checkedReally???
I thought you worked at an outdoor retail shop?Comment deleted. I Looked at garmont first. It came up as ski boots, and then I thought he was just doing that to fvck with me. But then I double checked
This.Danner.
I have had the same pair of Mtn. Lites since 1998.
How did you know that? And yes I do. I actually just so happen to be able to pro deal danner boots. I just wanted to know other opinions besides the peeps I work with.I thought you worked at an outdoor retail shop?
Just looking at the pics, I vote Danner. I have Red Wings and I love them, but the molded edges always need glue to stay on. Saying that, my Red Wings are so comfy, I just keep some Goop handy.
I'm just amazed that you work at an outdoor shop and didn't know Garmont made hiking boots. How did you know that? And yes I do. I actually just so happen to be able to pro deal danner boots. I just wanted to know other opinions besides the peeps I work with.
Well I work in the bike shop. I also know about clothing and climbing gear. Boots are at the end of the store. Its a real hike to get there.I'm just amazed that you work at an outdoor shop and didn't know Garmont made hiking boots.
I have two pairs of keens already.Check out the Keen website.. they are some of the most comfortable shoes/boots ive owned. The Oregon PCT might be just what your looking for
Oregon
No. Bur I am going on thursday after this snow storm to go get myself fitted.Have you tried them on?
Add Asolo and Merrell to that list.Scarpa, Garmont, Vasque, Lowa... they all make sweet heavy hiking boots. Get the pair that fits best.
Yup. My list was by no means comprehensive. La Sportiva, Mammut, and Montrail are all good boot mfgrs as well.Add Asolo and Merrell to that list.
I have these for winter hiking/mountaineering, very impressed with Asolo stuff based on them.
Really???I'm just amazed that you work at an outdoor shop and didn't know Garmont made hiking boots.
ok.45If you want legit hiking boots to climb mountains, hike, backpack, etc DO NOT get red wing or Danner. Those brands are work site boots only and will not provide the support, comfort or grip that a real hiking boots provides.
Would you buy a road bike to race DH with?
Go with Asolo, Vasque, La Sportiva or a few of the other brands mentioned.
I hiked the entire Long Trail twice on a single pair of Asolo's and I actually still have them. My main hiking boots are the Asolo Ergo GTX Hiking Boots and a pair of Vasque Wasatch GTX hiking boots. I also have a pair of mountaineering and ice boots. Bit of a boot whore.
Please don't get work boots, even though you will be ballin' coming from New Jersey and all.
Wrong.Trust me, you don't want to hike all day in Red Wings or Danners.
.
Apparently the Asolo hiking boots are only water resistant? That sucks. They look like nice boots.I wore Danners in the military sometimes, when patrolling rough terrain. Pretty good boots.
My Asolos beat them out in pretty much every way, though.
If Asolo didn't fit my feet as well as they do I'd be into Lowa or Vasque or Garmont or whatever did.
Not so much...Gore-Tex = waterproof.....this is just one example, but I'm sure a lot/most of their boots are waterproof.Apparently the Asolo hiking boots are only water resistant? That sucks. They look like nice boots.
WTF?Apparently the Asolo hiking boots are only water resistant? That sucks. They look like nice boots.
