I am planning a Bootleg Canyon trip and have some questions. First, is the road up to the 'top' manageable in a sedan (corolla)? I have been there before - on a race weekend - but cannot remember the road's condition (shuttle truck bounces a bit :D). I'd like to self shuttle if possible, especially since we may be there during the week.

Second, is camping in the parking lot permissible? People do it at the races, so I assume it is no problem. Any recommendations on places to stay in case we decide not to camp? One MTBR trail reviewer recommends "Stay at the Hacienda Hotel & Casino. it's a short drive from BC and you can check out the amazing "multi use" drainage ditch that runs for like 2 miles. killer stuff."

What are the bike shops in the area?
allmountaincyclery.com - these guys run the shuttle I think; $5 a run
bouldercitybikes.com
any other shops?

Any other stuff in the area besides bootleg that is suitable for a DH bike?

Thanks guys.

The road should be okay in a Sedan but may do damage to your vehicle. If All Mountain Cyclery is offering the 5 bucks per ride still, I would go with that option.

Camping is free in the parking lots and the showers have hot water.

The Hacienda usually has rooms for $19.99 per night on weekdays and $29.99 on weekends.

The Sands Motel is right in town and the owners are super nice! It's just nice to do business with people that appreciate it! If that's important to you stay here!

The drainage ditch is more like 6 or 7 miles and will take you from Bootleg Canyon right to the Hacienda. All downhill. The 1st couple of miles are the drainage ditch. Then it turns into a paved bike path for a few miles to crushed stone. If you go a couple of miles on the crushed stone past the Hacienda, you end up going into Hoover Dam the back way. However, the last couple of miles are flat, so a dh bike would suck. Cool walk though from your hotel!

Enjoy!

I had a wheel come off on the interstate after a bunch of shuttles. I should have checked the lug nuts before the drive. Maybe it was something else, but I blamed it on the shuttling.

I have had bike racks break from all of the bouncing.

A couple of spots you may bottom out if your sedan has low clearance. I just busted part of the lower front bumper on our rental car a couple of weeks ago, while dropping off the course builders at the shuttle drop off.
