:edit: On that note, wtf do the parents have to say about this? Guns don't just appear out of thin blue f%^king atmosphere. It seems to be a problem but why is it sooooooooooooooooooooooo hard and difficult to put a trigger lock on your weapon?

Pretty sure the kid got it from an uncle's house. Uncles are never good news.
I'm all for guns but there really needs to be some education before being allowed to own a gun. I know that won't stop the criminals who have illegal (unregistered) guns but many of these crimes are probably committed with 'legal' guns.
As for the kid in Ohio, if he was actually bullied or ostracized* (as it seems many of these school shooters are), I think we need to start trying to change/fix/something on that spectrum as well as focusing (or not focusing as it would appear we are doing) on the gun issues.
Or, just start having kids sterilized at birth....
