The CARB does their best to make it impossible to do controlled burns in the urban interface area. It took us 4 years to get approval to do a 200 acre controlled burn in the Santa Cruz Mountains 10 years ago. None since then and so how many towns did we lose up there last year as a result...Boony Doon, parts of Felton and Boulder Creek, Davenport

So... Pay a little now, or a whole lot later. I ASSume that they want to pay nothing now and hope later never comes. Really does not make much sense cause we all know later always comes.

You would hope that after the last couple of years that they will be waking up and that they will implement a program of controlled burns to help mitigate the severity of future events.

They are so focused on Air Quality that they forget to consider the massive smoke effects of these major burns. keep the fires small and you don't get these weeks of 500 to 700 AQI and loss of thousands of homes and major wildlife impacts

Also look at the Tamarack fire here in the Tahoe/Markleeville area. What was a 1/4 acre lightning strike fire, in a very rocky area, that was "just being watched", until it exploded like it did. Son had 3 stints on that fire. Had there been even 2 or 3 retardant/water drops on it, well, you know the outcome.

And then the Caldor fire? You are so right about the air quality being squat.......
