I thought Gee was the master of stiff sus. My guess would be a very high level of fitness for Gwin as he looks pretty at 100 % down all the track where others seemed a bit tired at the end and had to save some power for the last parts of the track. Just my guess

You reckon that helps that much? I tend to associate soft suspension with increased grip, and it seems to me his bike is just glued over all those off-camber roots, that enables him to just straight-line that one section. I mean, his suspension is obviously stiff. You can see that as he pedals down the start ramp, but he's obviously not short on traction either. Of course, he's also not lacking in skillz...
Watch Gwinn's run from world champs last year when they first started using that bike. He looks like he's riding a karpiel apocalypse with a monster T. It looks like a 'plush™' piece of shit.
