For all you ATAC lovers out there, here's a way to adjust your aged and loosening ATAC retention springs (This applies to the Alium, Z-Control and ROC pedals--the models with the simple wire spring--and possibly also the old carbon ones, though I haven't looked at a pair in a while)
The problem. A bent or worn spring keeps the retention bar from pressing firmly shut, as shown by the gap between the platform and the bar:
