Yea, the deraillieur was banging against the frame really bad in the lower setting making some nasty noises. I wasnt sure if it could break the deraillieur and didnt want to deal with that possibility. I know its only a deore but its still just more trouble and money. Id like to fix that banging problem and put the hangers in the lower setting cause the geometry is a little nicer if anyone has any suggestions for that.

mr flannery, try cutting up an old tube to make a pad between the der and the frame, zip tie it in place, part of an old tire or grip might also work. the der won't break without the pad but it will be quiet with it. many fsr(horst link bikes) need a der pad to keep the der quiet. switching to sram der/shifter would also solve this. more B tension on the R der would help slightly too.

alligator rotors (the lightest steel rotors i've seen) w/. juicy ultimates
fsa gravity carbon bars
i'm trying esi silicone grips; about 55g lighter than lock-ons, and absolutely dont move.
mg-1 pedals
token carbon / ti seat (140g. cheap ebay score)
bontrager xxx carbon post
using standard tubes

the ti spokes are holding up fine. a little wierd to build with, but make a surprisingly stable wheel once they've settled down.

Alright I want to get my Yeti ASX below 40 pounds. It's sitting at 42 pounds right now. Here is a list of stuff I'm thinking about upgrading to shave off 2 pounds. Other parts have either been already upgraded or I won't change because of performance reasons. Please let me know if my numbers are way off, or if you see something wrong.

Crank:
OLD: Truvativ Holzfeller ISIS 610g (weighed)
NEW: Middleburn RS-7 467g (advertised)

Rear Hub:
OLD: Shimano XT with solid Chromo Axle 550g (approx)
NEW: Hope Pro II with 10mm through Axle 350g (advertised 320 for QR)

Rotors:
OLD: Hayes V-Cut 203mm 400g (weighed, 200 each)
NEW: Alligator Serated 203mm 300g (weighed, 150 each)

Guide:
OLD: e-13 SRS with Supercharger 450g (approx)
New: e-13 LG1 with 1/3 Supercharger 300g (approx)
New: Gamut P30 240g (advertised)

Tires:
OLD: Maxxis Minion ST 2.5 2660g (weighed, 1330 each)
New: Intense 909 FRO Lite 2.5 2390g (advertised, 1195 each)

Other possible things to upgrade:

BB, 100g savings by putting XC BB instead of DH version. But the bike came with an XC version that developed play within one season. If anybody can suggest a lightweight ISIS BB which can handle FR and DH let me know.

Cassette, I can put a road cassette on and save 70-100g, but I like having the full range of gears. I have a SRAM PG-990 now.

the brakes are definitely a bit of an experiment in minimalism. silly light. they seem to be doing the trick (i'm 165), though i did get them to fade noticeably once on one steepish long / fast continuous braking section at whizzler. they were fine on the steep slower stuff (goats gully, etc) and all the jumpy faster trails however (not huge braking going on there). i'm sure they wouldn't work for a heavy guy / brake dragger, but i'm happy so far.

love it. more & more. gearboxes rock. perfect shifting all the time. apart from oiling the chain, i haven't had to touch the drive train for 5 months. no adjustments. that's how all dh bikes should be built. the geometry that originally felt a bit slack & long now feels just right. super stable in the fast & chundery, yet surprisingly capable in the slow technical stuff. light, big travel & bomber. just a rad bike all round.

Digital scale at two stores had it at 34.5 and 34.7

Ridden pretty hard to date with some bigger dirt jumps race style drops etc and she is holding super strong

**** THAT. i'd rather ride a EC90 carbon road seatpost then that. been 7 months since i started work out here, and i've seen more of those break then any other seatpost

thats too light of a dh bike for me. i like to have SOME weight below my legs.

just finished building this up a few weeks ago.





weighed in at 39.2 but i'd really like to confirm that with a second scale. i've have a ti-spring on it's way and the vented rotors will likely be tossed for non-vented one. those 3 items should get the bike under 38....

You may remove the bottom out adjuster of the dhx once is set up.
That will be a couple of grams less you roadie!!!:biggrin:

What pads are you running xy?

The stock organic pads are crap, I'd suggest running some good sintered pads if you aren't already - makes a big difference, after that they're just like any other brake. I'm running goodridge g-star (full sintered) in mine, other options would be EBC gold, or the avid sintered pads.

Rotors look very minimal too, not much surface area there! How much do they weigh?

Sure is an Alien post.

I have actually been riding this post for 2 plus years now and ZERO issues other then in a big crash the seat actually slid off the post.

Most people break these posts becasuse they over tighten them.

Didn't plan to have it this light.

just kinda fell together this way. I prefer the air shock because i jump everything and well the wheels are super light becasue I use ryno's and if it flat sopts ill pay the 15 bucks for a new one

just the stock pads in there right now. good to hear they're sucky; i'd be happy with a bit more power out of these (my previous brakes were mono 6ti's). the rotors are 157g ea. probably not the greatest contributors to braking awesomeness, but they're cheap, light & look cool, and isn't that what it's really all about?
