Anyone successfully running a 22 / 36 combination up front? Obviously I wouldn't expect the upshifting to be perfect with a 14tooth gap, but I was hoping it would work reasonably well if properly set up (i'd be using a race face pinned and ramped 36T ring).

I'm using it and a number of others here are too. I don't even have a ramped 36 and it works acceptably. Plan your shifts well in advance and its fine. The 36 ring is spot on for DH singletrack.

I thought this was pretty much the standard for a dual ring setup. I have currently am running 22/32 but I have new 22/36 rings at home waiting to go on because that's what was suggested to me when I asked a similar question.

i've known a couple of people using 22/36, and i had been meaning to buy a 36 ring and bashguard, and then i was surprised at the reaction from bikeshops (LBS in tahoe and beyondbikes.com and universal cycles, to name a couple). "99% of what we sell is 22/32 w/ bashguard"; "22/36 shifting will suck big-time".

not a single shop i contacted actually HAD a ramped 36T ring and bashguard. i was about to call go-ride but first wanted to try shops closer to where i live.

i have no doubt that once i get it all installed and adjusted it will be perfect for my california riding, but i do think it's strange that bike shops are so clueless on this.

Try the Envy rings. You might have to order them from a Canadian Bike Shop but they are the BOMB.

I ride 22/36 with an Evil DRS since one year and it shifts as good as the 22/32 combo. Front deraileur is a XT, shifter is a X9 Trigger and the 36er is ramped and from a french company .... I forgott the name of it....

It works!
