when 8% of the current budget goes towards debt service, that can't be good, can it?BurlyShirley said:Since when has a budget deficit ever hurt anyone?
They are. [see Enron, Tyco, etc...]narlus said:i thought that the republicans were going to run the gov't like a business?
Maybe.narlus said:when 8% of the current budget goes towards debt service, that can't be good, can it?
Exactly!jimmydean said:And to think we were in the black when he took office.
and they are seeking to cut the annual deficit in half (while still racking up red ink, not the total deficit. how long would it take for in-the-black years to clear the total deficit?LordOpie said:Exactly!
plus... "The Bush administration is seeking to cut the mammoth federal deficit in half by 2009."
...they won't even be in office then
ummmmm.... are you really that ignorant?BurlyShirley said:why is everyone so upset about the deficit? Who is it hurting, exactly?
isn't it common sense to you?BurlyShirley said:why is everyone so upset about the deficit? Who is it hurting, exactly?
canada is looking better and better now that im getting closer and closer to being 18 years old. i will not be surprised if there will be a draft in the next few years to get more soldiers for our occupation of iraq.Transcend said:Canada runs a surplus
I realize thats what the fear is, but that is not going to happen. I just wanted someone to say it. Going over budget has no effect on me as far as I can tell.Changleen said:Burly, at some point people will start to refuse to service your debt. If that happens, you're really in the ****.
What'll be really awesome, is when China refuses to service it as the #1 trading partner, and then Canada as the #2.BurlyShirley said:I realize thats what the fear is, but that is not going to happen. I just wanted someone to say it. Going over budget has no effect on me as far as I can tell.
Never happen. Ever.Transcend said:What'll be really awesome, is when China refuses to service it as the #1 trading partner, and then Canada as the #2.
thats what they said about the titanic.BurlyShirley said:Never happen. Ever.
China will soon have more trading power then the US - it WILL happen. The question is when. The US better get ready for the Chinese to start bullying them around...a second superpower is going to emerge shortly.BurlyShirley said:Never happen. Ever.
Don't forget the English, or the Inca.Changleen said:Yes! America, unlike Rome, or Greece, or any other great civilization will persist for all time!
Im not saying we'll always be the big man. I could care less about that. In fact, I wish we'd take more of a backseat role, like Australia or Canada sometimes, but hell, might as well milk it for what its worth.Changleen said:Yes! yeah...and there wont be any rainforest by the time I graduate high school.Transcend said:China will soon have more trading power then the US - it WILL happen. The question is when. As for Canada, our new prime minister is a dumbass, but this is the exact type of stunt he would pull.
The US is about to be depending on China as it's #1 trading partner. China refuses to service debt, and US economy instantly tanks. You don't know too much about socio-political economics do you?BurlyShirley said:Im not saying we'll always be the big man. I could care less about that. If china and canada rely on the US as much if not more than we rely on them. You guys just want something to bitch about.
Why do you always try to act like you're so in-the-know about this crap? You state the most simple crap and act like you're aristotle. These are simple concepts that 8th graders learn about. What you dont seem to understand is that 400Billion is not some astronomical number in terms of the USs total economy. If it came down to it, we'd shut down the national parks, short change the military and quit subsidizing farmers for about 3 months if it were a desperate situation. But its not. Im sure in canada 400b is probably more than the whole country is worth, but thats not the case here. Get off your American hating high horse and use some common sense once in a while.Transcend said:The US is about to be depending on China as it's #1 trading partner. First major disagreement between China and US and China has a HUGE trump card.
Maybe the World bank will bail us out? Or the Saudis? I know. The new Emir of Kuwait will hook us up.....Transcend said:The US is about to be depending on China as it's #1 trading partner. edit: This budget just shows how ridiculously inept this administration is at handling money. Going into overdraft for $10 on your checking account is one thing, $400 Billion is quite another. Welcome to Reagonomics. Again. It didn't work the first time, and it certainly won't work this time.
how about i did a few degrees in it?BurlyShirley said:Why do you always try to act like you're so in-the-know about this crap? You state the most simple crap and act like you're aristotle. Sinuses
...and you sure impressed me with your vast knowledge.Transcend said:how about i did a few degrees in it?
Correct. But you'll be a back seat player in the world after China.Changleen said:Yes! America, unlike Rome, or Greece, or any other great civilization will persist for all time!
Exactly. The Chinese are a powerhouse. They are predicted to become a true superpower in 18-24 months from now. Couple that with that fact that they have insane manufacturing ability, and the world order is going to start to shift. There will be a significant change when the world has 2 superpowers again.keeping_it_real said:Correct. But you'll be a back seat player in the world after China.
America is crippling itself in debt.
It'll really just take the right knowledge that they work for nothing to change that. Having been exposed first hand to Chinese outsourcing, I have seen that they don't pay anything, and they don't care about the people. Much like it seems from current administration, when you lose the people, you lose the power. There are many better sources to foreign outsourcing than China. I can assure you that they will grow, but they will not strive like you say that will. It's not politics that make me believe this, it's business.Transcend said:Exactly. The Chinese are a powerhouse. Their human capital alone is staggering.
...yawn.Transcend said:how about i did a few degrees in it?
400 billion dollars is an astronomical number, as they are supposed to be paying off the tens of trillions they already owe, not adding a half trillion more to it.
Also, you are an idiot and are so naive about politics and how the world actually works, it's mind numbing. If it is something that most 8th graders know about, how come you havent sorted it out yet?
Talking about shortchanging the millitary - how many hundred billion could they have saved by now by not invading sovereign nations illegaly? It's quite high.
I love how you try to pander and shy away from issues when it is clearly demonstrated that you have no idea about what you are talking about.BurlyShirley said:...yawn.
Your schtick is tired. The best you can do is call me an idiot when you fail to make an argument....as usual. The philosophical difference you have with why the money is being spent doesnt make you any smarter. If you see the cause as necessary, there are far more frivolous wastes to complain about. Being the bright guy you are (which is why your mag is so awesome these days, Im sure) you'd think you'd try and acknowledge some of that.
Anyway, Im sure all that OIL we stole from Iraq will start to pay for itself soon.
Sinuses.
Im sorry. Exactly WTF point did you make?Transcend said:I love how you try to pander and shy away from issues when it is clearly demonstrated that you have no idea about what you are talking about.
Industry, trade, downsizing the military when the time is right. You acnt as if the US is dead in the water, when its really a pretty dynamic economy. Again, Im not saying that the US will remain the worlds superpower , as I said earlier, Id prefer a backseat role, but we have far more to offer than alot of places. It is not the end of the world.. its a two way street with China and the US.Transcend said:"If it comes to that" doesn't work in a case like this. It will get you down to 0 current annual deficit possibly..but guess what, now you owe tens of trillions of dollars + interest. Where exactly are those debt repayment funds going to come from?
