Why is it every idler wheel monstrosity ALWAYS has steel profile style cranks on it? (coming from a guy who used to run profiles on my dh and dj bike for the first half of the 2000's)

Yep, the off season is officially here. Steve M is posting suspension theory missives and we're reduced to necrofying Racelink threads.
I was browsing some nearly 10year old threads I had posted in the other day...there were some good ones I had to refrain from bumping..

for as "conservative" as this is for early 2000's BMW I think it might take the cake..that wheelbase is just plain wrong

even with a 12" travel fork and a 24" rear wheel the headangle is still prob steeper than my trailbike

Haven't checked this site for a while, but since German bikes are a topic, here are my German bikes.

For reference the DH has 62* head angle...

both were designed and fabricated by the former builder of Bergwerk and Solid.
