Dude from the bike shop made sure to tell me that the black side goes in, which didn't sound right to me so I hit the internets.

Now, according to http://gizmology.net/bearings.htm all 6 series bearings (in this case a 6805) are Single-Row Deep Groove, which means it doesn't matter which side goes in and which side goes out.

Why, then, do my enduro max 6805 bearings have a red side and a black side?

Do the seals have anything on them other than 6805 RS?

My guess is that the shop guy is right: one seal is full contact= better seal, but more drag, goes OUT. and one seal is low contact, low drag, but poorer sealing, goes in.

Now that you mention it, I think they did say LLU. All of those designations have matching seals on either side of the bearing.
