I got a 9" x 3" Avy w/ Ti spring (550 lbs)on my M1. I weigh about 230'ish and I seem to take up most of the travel in sag.

Avalanche suggest a 550 for my weight, but it feels way soft. Is it supposed to feel that way?

Also, is the compression adjustment an overall adjustment, or just low speed?

You can add clicks on the comp adjuster and that will make the shock harder and check your resivoir pressure if its low the shock will feel soft. Craig told me 250 psi and that made it too stiff so I backed off the preload one turn to zero and comp clickers to full open. My swing link is in the top holes on the frame(progressive)

You should be running about 35-40% sag. Get someone to help you measure it when you are centred on the bike.
550lb should be about right.

I was gonna say I think I'm no help with an Avy behind the M1. I dunno how their spring weights work.

I know on my M1, 9.5x3 stroke 5th element, I had a 400 stock on it (ti spring) and it was too soft. I tried a 550 and it was too stiff (wouldn't go through all the travel) so I lost a little weight, and now am on a 450lbs spring and god damm it feels good!

550-600 sounds right, 650 might be a tad on the stiff side but should work. I'm around your weight so I feel what you are going through.
