So what is up with the UCI?

They prohibit gopro style cameras for DH coverage.
Then they announce full camera coverage of the Tour.
Cars, riders, mechanics will all be outfitted for the teams participating.

So, other than the UCI hating MTB and especially DH....
Is it the terrain they ride, the propensity for crashes...?

What goes? - what am I missing?

Easy: Those roadies in the tour are so full of juice they don't care if they crash :pilot:. Seriously, down here the the whole classic tours's package has got so discredited due to doping and general bribery the only guys ho still swallow the "these-guys-are-supermen-they-can-do-a-gazillion-miles-in-two-weeks" pill are the older ones. But even for them it's getting harder and harder to sustain a decent conversation involving road racing and doping...

What in the history of anything would make you think that the UCI makes decisions on logic and reason?

I am pretty sure those in charge get their appointments based on how well their wigs are powdered.

The El Le TdF being like 10-kajillion times larger than DH in advertising value could have something to do with why the roadies are getting more cameras.

Also, broadcast rights are a real thing; Prohibiting helmet cams on the riders may also be part of Red Bull's and/or the UCI pro photogs' contracts. Try walking onto a MLB field or a Supercross track with an HD camera or 2-ft Canon lens without press credentials sometime.

It's a conspiracy. GoPro wants that the new "Session" will be a built in feature in any DH helmet. That's why they built it so small.

Next is AMA bans the cameras for supercross.
