Front Range, dude...
I have been looking to upgrade from the family snap o matic...to a "better" model on the good/better/best scale...thought has been on the back burner for awhile now. Then I find this ad on the local for sale listings. Guy is a friend of a co worker, who reccomends him highly...

"I have a Cannon EOS Rebel TXi, lightweight carry bag, 2-3 Litho rechargeable batteries, charger and cables. I have all the original instructions and box. ASKING - $350.00"

In correspondance w/ him he also related that he has a remote that he will throw in...good deal or no?? My experience is old school art class photo work...mostly b/w, I still have an older AE1 system....

Not really a great deal. You can get the body on eBay for about $200, and the bag/cables/remote essentially add no value in a used market. The only thing that's worth any money is the batteries, and those might not even be worth money if they're third party and not Canon parts. If he were including a lens it'd be a better deal, but not for the body only.

I actually have an XTi that I was just going to list on eBay. If you're still in Germany the shipping might not be worth it but PM me if you're interested.

Is it the Canon 18-55mm lens?

If so, $300 is a reasonable price for the kit. If you shopped hard on eBay, you might be able to do a little better, but if the guy is a trusted source, that's worth something.

Dunno, if you were able to swing a couple more hundred you can probably get a far better camera/lens (and I have the XTi). For $450 you can get a refurb T1i (moderately better body) with a much better 18-55 IS lens. Shoots video *and* you get the IS in the lens, plus the lens is optically has gotten far better reviews than the previous 18-55mm version. I'm not saying that the XTi is a bad body, but rather for a little bit more money you can get quite a bit more camera.

Also, if BV says that you can get the XTi body on Ebay for $200, I'd do that and then pick up an 18-55mm IS lens for ~$100. (link is to new, free shipping $117)

Here's a review of the IS version of the 18-55mm, and goes into a little bit about the better optics.
