I haven't seen a Nokia phone in use in about 4 years. Who still buys those?

Samsung needs to do a commercial or PR where they talk about all the stuff they make for Apple - new "Amazing" iPad Retina display...made by SAMSUNG. All the current iOS hardware offerings by Apple, powered by SoC made by Samsung - iPhone 4, Iphone 4S, Ipad 2, and Ipad 3. Apple's flash memory - Samsung. Without Samsung Apple would be SOL, nobody else is around that can meet their demand - they tried to switch to TMSC for the iPad 3 and it didn't happen. Apple's A6 will likely again be supplied by Samsung.

Yes, because no companies use suppliers. At all. ever.

I didn't read his comment as pro-Apple. Pretty interesting how much competition aapl has and on how many different fronts they have it. eg. Apple competes at both the consumer level and supplier level to deliver the same product as its competing supplier. It's pretty amazing that they are where they are now. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" I guess is the lesson over at Samsung right now though.

Its true but 2011 smartphone market was 420 million units and 2011 tablet market was 64 million units. Profit on smartphones is significantly higher than tablets and tablets are tertiary/third wheel devices - nice to have but nothing like demand/reach for smartphones or PCs.

this is true but even if W8 is as good as it seems, it still wont sell nearly as well as a IOS device.

100% agreed. Android is a mismatched abomination. Windows 8 looks polished and works well from most previews.

How much time do you have on an Android phone? My Samsung Galaxy S2 has been fan-fvcking-tastic.

A decent amount of time on different models, but that's the thing. Each one is different. It's ridiculous. There is no consistency across the platform AT ALL. They work, but they feel even more hacked together then my old windows mobile phone.

Well you are right about that, but it's not the Android OS at fault here as much as phone makers and cell phone companies trying to customize and "brand" the UI. The ones that get closer to "vanilla" Android are typically the best. (go figure)

Main reason I got the Samsung was the screen and the 4G speed via T-mobile. We wanted to jump off of AT&T and it was the best thing going around here. Haven't regretted it for a second. So far there's not been a single thing that my iphone toting friends can do on their phones that I can't.

In fact the only reason I'm bringing a laptop on the road anymore is to backup pics from my SD cards. Other than that the phone does everything I need.

Most of Motorola's Android phones have sucked unless you had special needs (on Verizon they were good for global use or you wanted a physical keyboard).

From the people I know who own Samsung smartphones, reliability hasn't been great.

I own both Android (HTC) and iOS and my next phone will be Android. Widgits kick ass.

My Droid X was awesome. Best reception of any phone I've ever had, very stable, good screen, built like a brick. Moto's customizations to that software were pretty non-intrusive. I was very happy with it.

I think the OEMs are the primary reason for Android having a bad rep. Every vanilla build of Android I've ever used has been extremely fast and stable - including my Galaxy Nexus now. Once the OEMs start dicking around with the software, it goes downhill fast. Not to mention those customizations are a primary reason why Android users can't expect timely updates.

it started strong. however, it seems to get buggy and lock up more and more frequently. i did a hard reset, and i don't have tons of apps. i like to stream slacker/pandora, check fb and the market, and send texts and emails. since i'm on a mac at home, the iphone could be in my future, i'm sure it will start brilliant, then the glitter will fade. a nicer camera will be nice. i don't care about not being able to swap a battery (never been an issue).

I had an iphone 3gs and it was ok, then I bought an HTC Vivid and love it. My girlfriend just bought an iPhone 4s...completely lame in my opinion compared to the HTC. Serri got boring after about 5 minutes, and we did one face to face call and pretty much was bored with the phone after that, so she took it back the next day and bought the vivid as well. So far this is def one the best phones i've had so far. It seems like the possibilities are near endless with it.

Any OS (desktop, server, mobile, etc) with minimal RAM and/or buggy applications with memory leaks will tend to do that. How often do you clear the application caches. Some apps like facebook rack up MB of space on every launch.

That won't free up huge app caches (settings>applications>manage applications> look through each app you use frequently and clear any large cache and be sure to also look at your browser cache under All apps too) or if you have too many things (apps, photos, music, video, etc) in storage. This problem is typical for older or entry level smartphones - its like when your PC runs out of HDD space and the system starts hitting the HDD too much bringing your system to a crawl.

Thanks! Seems to have provided immediate performance increase. I'd shove you some more rep if I could clear that cache.

I had an older Samsung Galaxy phone, now a Razr Maxx. I tried to figure out how to use iOS, F-that, give me a BACK BUTTON, but no.... every GD developer has a better idea, and menu for you to hunt back and forth for a back button in a different location for every app. Dl'd instagram on android, big bag of suck.

I also like my 1 day 7 hour, and 44 minutes out of battery life on a stable 4g network that's almost as fast as my cable, GPS on, data sync on, screen on auto and no effort into optimization. If I tried, I could do a day and a half out of a charge.

That's one of the reasons I like the HTC Desire so much. It has a physical back button.

Still loving my Samsung Focus with Windows Phone. When I first got it last Feburary (2011) it was a little buggy but very soon after the NoDo update was pushed out and its been super solid. The only times I've had to reset my phone (pop the battery) was when I added a 32gb microsd card and once the 3g crapped out on me. Super solid phone and OS. Zero memory leaks, zero process managing, zero malware, zero app compatablity issues. Couldn't be happier. Well, except I cracked the gorilla glass. I dropped it 6'+ to a concrete floor. Its small and in the uppper corner so I usually don't notice it.

My two week old Android phone turns off and back on twice when you are about a minute in to a call, it's a bit annoying. Starting to regret not going Windows(or a normal Android phone).
