Old Yeller (Wheels) *Balfa Hardtail Porn*

For the benefit of Kanter and anyone else that might be wondering where Kanter's old set of yellow 24" SingleTracks ended up, here ya go! :D I think the color plays nicely with the orange frame and yellow Balfa lettering...

Appologies for the seat height; I just got done wheezing and sweating my way up a big climb. :)

The bike's primarily a dirt jumper, but is actually so much fun to ride trail on that I've been hitting some dirt with it when I want the maximum cardo workout in the minimum amount of time (single speed will tend to get you that, especially in Utah).

Fork is an '04 (100mm) ShiverSC. One of the ones Supergo had a blowout on a while back, for $249. It's about the best feeling SC fork I've ever ridden. Dual HSCV! Smooooooooooth. Ramps up nicely; haven't managed to bottom it yet. No drops over 3ft though. I think the extra bushing overlap due to lowering the fork 1" from '03 has helped the torsional stiffness. I'm only about 170 in gear, but I haven't been bothered by any flex whatsoever. If you slow-speed through big rocks and try to torque the wheel, then yes, the SC twists some. But at normal trail speed and above the Shiver rocks. :thumb:

Sorry for the crappy pics. That's all you get from a $29 digital 1.3MP camera...

Thanks. :D Losing the gears is kinda liberating, not to mention making setup pretty much a snap. Two hydro lines and that's it! A Surly Tugnut tensioner on the drive-side dropout, plus bolt-thru XT rear, and there's no issue with wheel slip at all. I left the Blackspire guide on in case I ever want to throw a rear derailleur on...well, that and I was too lazy to pull the Profiles to yank the thing. ;)

LOL! :D Indeed it does! What an odd coincidence.... ;)

As to frame size and year, ask Mani_UT. I bought the frame from him to help exorcise some bad mojo demons, i.e. if I'm not mistaken the x-ray pic used as Mani's avatar was precipitated by a DJ crash on the Minuteman. Embarrassingly, I'm not certain of either year or size. The frame's small, but I'm not sure how that fit's into Balfa's sizing.

As for the weight, I haven't gotten it on a scale, but the heft test says it's about 30lbs. I'm running single-ply Arrow tires (Bite LT rear and Blitz front) with stnd. tubes.

...Yeah, the Shiver decals are kinda a fork fashion faux-paus, I know. Not quite sure what Marz was thinking....or IF they were... I toyed with removing them immediately, but thought I'd just let at least the stanchion guard ones fall off on their own, as they about came off when I peeled the protective paper off.

...Despite everything, I think it's the orange Hayes calipers that really add the cherry on top of the sunday. ;) :D

I can't get over how long that seatpost is. Nice looking bike though I'm glad you like how it rides :)
 :D Funny thing is, as long as it looks, the frame is small enough that I still only get about 3/4 leg extension when seated, and I'm 5'10". It's no big deal, though, as I generally have no choice but to stand up and hammer when climbing on it. Like I said, it's a great workout!
