googled "Nuvinci hub" and it looks like a gear with chain.

this no chain bike, works without chain

the oil is passing to the rear hub through the frame

Would be interesting to have one of these things hooked up to set of normal drivetrain to drive the front wheel.. Make it a fatbike, and now you got something interesting.. AWD snow/sand bike!

Interesting, but I don't think it would ever work in a performance application. Durable yes, but the hydraulic pumps/motors have an efficiency around 92% the whole system would be, at best, in the low 80% range. A chain drive in good conditions is about 97% efficient. Probably a great system for a chill commuter or beach cruiser where a clean low maintenance system is a priority over performance.
