hallo!

i have a 2012 mavic deemax ultimate wheelset.

in the back wheel, you can adjust with a special wrench the bearing.

what is the function of this?

i notice that when i go full clockwise and I spin the rear wheel, it seems a bit draggy, and it stops relatively fast.

when i go full anticlockwise, it spins for a long time but there seems to be a bit of play laterally.

You are adjusting the bearing tension. You want it to be tight enough that there is no play, but not so tight as to cause drag. Keep an eye on it because it tends to loosen up on its own on mavic hubs.

It shouldn't be loose enough to have lateral play or over-tightened. Hyper-basic mechanical stuff here guy.

No, go ahead and loosen it up so it rolls super fast, don't mind the play, that just allows the wheel to lean over better in corners to get better tractions. The hub and bearings will be fine.
Might be helpful with people's new found love for square tire shapes on stupidwide rims.
