is the black the new model? or just the logo updated on the backplate?

The black guide shown in the post is the same backplate as the version with white plastics. The LG1+ and SRS+ have had a running change to the engraving starting this past winter/early spring. If you have a question about which one you're getting, just contact the retailer before you place your order. These guys most likely haven't had a chance to update the product image.

thanks for reply, so the only change made is the new logo engraved in the base plate?

Yes. That is correct.
The lazer engraving has been changed for 2012 but there is no change to the machining of the part.

This should explain everything..
