    tl;dr version:

beginning of march, my car gets hit on drivers side by some mindless asshat.

mindless asshat is insured by geico

geico forces me to go to some questionable shop, i relunctantly agree because they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee on the work

it is now may 2. my car is in the shop FOR THE FOURTH TIME to correct an issue that A) they didn't catch with their initial work to fix the damage or B) caused themselves during the initial repair

    rage.

also, i was incorrectly charged for the rental car from the initial repair - despite being explicitly told i would not. getting reimbursed took a month and 5 phone calls (including 2 phone calls to a corporate rep)

Why are you dealing with the other insurance company anyway?
They have zero interest in keeping you happy as you're not their client.

We always had our cars repaired through our insurance, who then chases other insurance co for payment.
You also can't be forced to work with any particular shop.

because the other driver hit me and was at fault, i opted to go through their insurance. otherwise i would've had to pay out of pocket, then wait to get reimburst. the damages were over $3000 which i didn't have at the time.

When I was hit last winter, I was fortunate enough to be hit by a lady with the same insurance co. Made for a quick and painless repair/rental. Still good 16 months and 50k miles later.

    must be nice.

the one small iota of satisfaction i got out of this is that the driver was cited for "careless driving" by the police officer who responded to the scene.*

*note: i was not driving the car at the time, my fiancee liz was.

This makes me appreciate my insurance company even more than before. They take care of everything for me and then chase the other company to get their money back. I've never caused an accident in my life and certainly don't feel like it should be my job to chase after a company who is supposed to be taking care it. I've even been told not to speak with the other insurace company if they call me.

i have good insurance, don't get me wrong, but i'd have had to pay for the repairs out of pocket - which i couldn't afford at the time. not to mention i would have still been required to pay my deductible ($500). they replacement parts cost a lot because of how new the vehicle was; only OEM replacements were available.

just out of curiosity, what insurance do you have?

I have Liberty Mutual insurance. My current car has been hit several times over the years by a multitude of idiot drivers. Mainly just bumps and scrapes, but Liberty Mutual has never asked me for a penny. Last year I was rear ended and the police actually had to come. The car was fine but my neck was killing me. They setup a claim number for medical purposes and took care of the doctor visits I made in relation to the accident. No up front payment from me. The doctor's office just took the information and billed Libery Mutual directly. I assume Liberty Mutual then chased the other guys insurance for payment.

gotcha. i've had state farm insurance for years and been very happy with them. i know there's also state to state differences when it comes to auto insurance, so that may have played a part in it.

I live in Massachuetts which has pretty strict car insurance regulations, so that could definitely be a factor.

    I hear that.

Wife's car got hit while she was parked. Other person (at least) left a note and was insured by geico. Wife took her car in to the geico shop. Repair took twice as long as promised. And when my wife showed up to ask some questions of the rep there regarding the repair, the rep walked away AS my wife was talking to her. Classy.

I subsequently wrote Geico corporate an email asking to be removed from all their advertising lists as I'd never use them for insurance. I received confirmation of my request BUT continue (to this day) to receive their ads. Must be that dumbass gecko running the company...

Geico's business strategy is pretty well documented. They gain customers by offering very low prices. They return the bare minimum of legally required "insurance" and say **** all to customer satisfaction. They don't care if you get pissed and leave, there are always more new drivers in line looking for cheap insurance to take your place. When you look at their stats for age and loyalty of customers, this is very obvious.

edit: Google ad for the win. A thread bashing Geico, and they put a banner ad on the page.

I switched to them just last week, as their rates truly are low. Saving almost $100/month between the bike and the car is a big deal, and I already know what to expect in terms of customer service.

    This.

Last two times I got hit, I made one phone call to USAA (my insurance company) and they took care of everything.

Sorry to hear about your car, jK.

Really? You have state farm and would have had to front the costs? I have state farm and last time I got hit, I gave my agent the other insurance companies info..... Told them the shop I was going to, paid nothing.... Instead of asking your insurance company to pay for it, tell them to earn the money you have given them over the years and get them to start harassing the **** out of the other company. You do not have to claim it on your insurance, but your agent better damned well earn their keep like mine does.

Sounds to me that your agent is kinda ****ty and does not care, your agent should be willing to be calling geico and getting them off their collective ass's and get your car fixed, specially with how new it was.... she should be hitting geico to replace the car altogether.

i'm going to find you and hit you, so you can get the true experience of how awful they are to deal with

like i said earlier... likely due to state to state variations in auto insurance... NJ has some weird laws.

Unless there is something really odd in NJ, you shouldn't have had to front anything besides your deductible, along with the fact they can't dictate which shop you go to. If the other guy is found at fault, it's his insurance company's responsibility to make the car 'as it was before'.

    I guess I'm glad I have a best friend that's a State Farm agent...

    this.

when my new car was broken into and the stereo/nav system was stolen, state farm let me go to the dealer for a repair quote, gave me the check for that amount, then didn't give a fvck that i went to my local shop and got everything fixed for a fraction of the dealer cost.

    jK has teh suck farm.

This. Statefarm has always been good to us. My car has been hit twice and we've never had to front the repairs. I'd say keep statefarm and find a new agent.
