We didn't want to spam up the board when we recieved the first batch. They had a handful of each stroke length and we bought almost everything they had. They don't accept backorders so i had been calling them every 2 days to get them in.the next batch should be in September.

I wonder if they are going to make a remote res version, if not, doubt it will fit my Fly? That res looks quite a bit bigger than the RC equivalent.

As Darren at Push has said before, even the best production shocks-1,Still cut SOME corners here and there to meet a reasonable retail price, and 2,even with all of the adjustments a shock can still be valved specifically for a rider, bike and terrain.
He has had one for a few months and has been testing new internals for it for a while now.He told me a while back that this baby will be THE shock to use due to his ability to mod the internals since it uses a valve stack and air pressure related damping, and the high quality nature of the body, shaft, etc. Not to mention that he was very pleased with the performance of it from the factory.
It's probably one of those situations that you ride it for a few months to a season and then you get to the point that you may want some specific setup that you may not be able to achieve with the clickers, pressure, etc and at that point Push could help out.Or You D.A.T. system is telling you so!

I totally understand..... Ive heard similar things from other people regarding this shock. I guess i was just meaning that its funny to me when people plan on modifying something before its fully available, and without having much time on it...... Im excited to give one a try. Time will tell how it performs VS the romic on my 5-spot. The romic has no issues so far, i just got a chance to get the DHX and like to try new stuff.

i'm totally resisting calling Go-Ride...

....must...hold on...to....wallet........arrrgghh........(fizzle)

I tried to resist...but resistance is futile....Mine should arrive next Wednesday.
I'll give it the test at Bromont next weekend and compare it against my Push'd RC I've been using since May...I have 20 full days at Bromont this year so I think I'll have a good feeling for comparision.

cool, lemmee know. I've been eyeing the Push upgrade as well and will be half the cost. The thing about the Push is the tuning aspect since my bike's a one-off. Plus quick shipping back and forth to the states is gonna start costing alot more unless i want to be off the bike for a month...

goes on this

I believe it's been nominated for Fugly bike hall of fame but I love it.
Simple..I check 10 bolts instead of the 400 on my old Nicolai
not to mention all the speedholes that need individual cleaning attention...

i happen to like the Diesel in the darker colors...everything goes with basic black....

....here are some preliminary findings....

First the "GOOD":
this shock feels very, very good! Just did a short 1 hour ride on my usual local XC (steep, rooty, rocky, twisty- ST).....it was funny at first, similar to the "brain" shock, my pro-pedal adjustment did nothing & was bobbin' like a mutha in granny! Somewhere in the middle of the ride it kicked in & never had another issue. It really reduce pedal input resonance to nill. Also, it doesn't feel "dead" like the 5th Element. Very lively like the RC for J-hops & such...while the rear still sticks (tracks) very nicely. I definitely could feel a good bit of difference from the Romic. Very plush on the small stuff & incredibly Firm under pedalling power.

the "BAD":
there was no manual included with the shock & it was my impression that there are none available yet.....gonna call Fox tech in 5 min.

the "UGLY":
OK, here's where things get dirty. Coil removed....full compression of shock & there is definite contact with down tube (enough to gouge the powder coat) with the volume adjuster (bottom out) full out. Adjuster half way in/ out allows for ~1mm of clearance. Granted, this is with foam bumper fully compressed & last night (with coil installed) I could not get it to touch by jumping up & down attempting to bottom it with my weight ( I can usually do this on all my bikes). I actually prefer the feel with the adjuster set @ half way so no real biggie.....however, it is still a bummer to have to deal with the situation all together ( I mean, you ultimately want a perfect fit).

.........more thoughts as I get more time. It seems to keep getting better as the break-in period progresses.......

.....also, the 500# spring feels good (I need a 600# on a regular RC setup) w/ 150 PSI.....still need to get Fox's recommendation for Psi

Did you try flipping the shock upside down(resi pointing up) yet?
......no chance of a fit like that. Dave T. suggested I peen the downtube if I really want full adjustability. Fox of course said that it will not be covered under warranty. I really don't think it will be an issue........feels just too good to give up!

We got three VP-Free's in yesterday with DHX5's on them. The first one got built up today. I'll try and give a report after riding one. They're supposedly mucho grams lighter than a 5th Coil. I like the one big knob that says "PROPEDAL". The one thing I hate about my Swinger is that you can't adjust on the fly.

so than it would be a good replacement for 02 M1? don't get me wrong, i love my 5th but think the regular send it in for maintenance is a joke. also love the idea of not have to have tool on me to adjust to different trail and courses.

OK, I would like to preface this review with this glance into a pet peeve of mine:

....I hate it when somebody buys a new bike/ component...takes it for a spin & sits down to write a review billing it as the latest greatest of all time.....seriously, does anyone ever critically evaluate a new product?

Having said that, I hope you realize that I rarely review any product this quickly...I am also generally critical...particulary after a new purchase. If anything I tend to over analyze/ criticize any new addition. However, I am truly blown away by this new Fox!!! Where do I start? Having just ridden another local XC trail network (this one isn't nearly as steep, but equally technical. It is loaded with tight, twisty singletrack...peppered with roots & off camber/ rooty turns.) Because the terrain is rolling, you can carry alot of speed & it is a fun & fast ride...a good testing ground for the Fox's high speed damping.

The shock tracks better than any I have ridden (except my avalanche). There are roughly 4 or 5 corners on these trails that are high speed, off camber & loaded with roots. They are hard to carry speed through when dry & nearly impossible when wet. Tonites ride followed days of steady rain here....and the trails were very slick & the roots deadly! I couldn't believe how well the rear tracked!!! It just held it's line like never before, seriously I was impressed. I began to really push it in the turns where I knew typically I had a hard time maintaining traction because of stutter bumps & roots...but tonite it held it's line perfectly. The rear felt so stable & controlled (not to mention very plush).

OK, OK, I know this is hard to convey....but one of the things I like about my Avalanche is the fact that it feels very firm under you. IOW, if you bounce around on it it feels like a MX bike...but the minute you ride through rough sections it comes to life under you absorbing everything, yet still feeling firm under the rider (not mushy or wallowing in it's travel). The DHX has the same ability. I put 175 psi in the chamber & had the PP cranked 1 click out from full on. The shock remained unbelieveably supple for slow-small hits & remained firm feeling underneath me. At speed it just soaked everything up, again feeling firm & supportive underneath. Needless to say I am loving this shock! I know there were mentioned some fit issues, but I haven't had any problems. There is a good sized 4 footer with nearly no transition at the end of one trail tonite. I hit it with some speed to test out the shocks response to a bigger hit.....felt like butter!!!! Still no contact with the down tube. Since a 4 foot drop is the limit on the Spots warranty, I don't forsee any issues with the fit.

All in all, the DHX tops the Romic in every conceiveable way......

i was wondering what this thread was about.

my friend paul got a DHX and RP3 from fox a few days ago and just told me the same thing about the downtube over the phone.

sucks, but it does work on the large frames, the mediums and smalls are the ones affected.
