Helping a guy at work and I'm far enough out of the loop that I am not helpful.

He's a ride up to ride down guy. Used bike is fine. Top is $1800. 5'11", 31" inseam.

Suggestions?

I take it he is a large? Has he gone around to all the local shops and tried a bunch of stuff out? Is he looking for more of a cross country type ride or something to slowly chug uphill with that will do whatever he wants on the downhill bit?

There is 27 pages of bikes with the following criteria; All mountain/XC, $1800 max, USA.

Heres a Specialized Pitch; I always wanted to try one of these. Maybe slightly expensive? But, it does have a VitalMTB sticker on it, so it must be legit. That testbike sticker, though (???)?

The search...

Lots to sort through, but there are some nice bikes in there.

Have any spare axles or bottom linkage ?
Unfortunately mine are well beyond pooched. I'd assume Banshee has a bunch left over though (axles); didn't they switch some new coated axles right before doing all the replacements for the v2?.

My axles might actually be okay, the anodizing wore off where the bushings sit, but I don't think they got gouged. I kept them lubricated very well with lots of grease to try to slow down the wear. The link though, is completely worn out.

Oh yeah, you might be interested in this. I purchased this threaded grease adapter for my Spitfire from a dude off of MTBR. Its yours if you want it...

I recently pulled the bottom linkage apart and discovered that not only is the linkage main pivot worn, but the stay pivot is ovalized. I was able to round it out with a jeweler's bur to get the axle back in, but fuck it's loose.

Cool looking adapter, seems like that should have been included with the bushing and bolt spares.

Oh well, I'll eventually have enough cash to replace my ragged out, but still rideable, Spitty.

So you guys are recommending something to him with known $hitty pivots? :D
I have another 26 in. frame that's in better shape than the Spitty. The bike, even with it's loose pivots, handles that much better than pretty much anything else. I'll take my clapped Spitty over a carbon Dentist bike any day.

The new Spitfire's have bearings and stiffer linkage. I hope to be flogging another one for a few years.

I was going to sell my enduro 29er for about 2200 once my evil gets built up...couple of weeks. It's above his budget, but probably has like 50 miles on it and one day at highland. Another 300 for the CCDBi.
