Yup, there is definitely a sweet spot between maintenance intervals! I try to balance this on my bikes as well as my cars. Doing enough without having it apart all the time and screwing stuff up.
Yeah I don't think it's any more believeable that it WILL happen. But I do believe it is possible. Too much money to be lost giving up on the uber profitable oil and car businesses. Whatever. Surfs up, dudes.
I call BS on the original poster. Wind, solar, and hydro power at this point are massively important I believe. Also an overhaul of our transportation systems to reduce highway needs for national & international shipping lanes will help.

I'd check the outer tube of the rebound damper shaft for cracks. Though mainly the r2c2/wc dampers did it, some of the 2010 and 2011 had cracking shafts. This can also land you in lock-town.

Yeah I fully understand the reasoning behind it.
It's alot easier to sell a new & improved thing than just a revamped old thing. No matter what you do to your 26" bike, its just a 26' bike. But this new one is better! I supposedly can fit 650b on my top fuel but with probably zero clearance...
I don't have a problem with the wheel size, I'll ride whatever is around. I will beat a bunch of dorks most of the time until someone who's actually fast beats me.
