Took a spill in May in a TLD D2 and knocked myself out for 30 minutes, got back boarded of the mountain and rushed to the hospital, and ended up with a load of medical bills. My D2 was in pretty rough shape, and I decided to go for a moto helmet this time around. Got a 08 V3 for $150 on ebay and...
Certainly agree with you, but I would say that if two people are going down a trail one traveling faster then the other and they both (for the sake of the argument) fall in the exact same manner, the person riding faster is going to take the harder impact. This would go right along with the...
Just a note. I guess I hit hard after look at my bike. I have a Funn direct mount stem and I managed to offset my bars in the fall by ripping the bolts through the slots on the stem. It was set in the 50mm position and one of the bolts is now partially sitting in the 45mm position. Can't say...
Guys thanks for all the great input. Based on my riding style and the fact that typically when I fall, I fall fast and hard I decided to order a moto helmet. Pleasantly surprised to see how much cheaper moto helmets can be found. Picked up an 08 Fox V3 Carmichael for $150.
On another note I...
I'm honestly not exactly sure. I feel like I remember reading that the moto helmets are thicker and stiffer so if you hit your head at a slow speed the helmet doesn't give much and you head tends to absorb the impact more instead of the helmet. Could be wrong, but I swear there was a debate...
So long story short I took a spill at Diablo this weekend and knocked myself out. I didn't come to and was out for an extended period of time. This happen approximately 3 in the afternoon, I don't remember anything until the following morning despite the fact I was up and moving around after...
Definitely ride what's comfortable. Don't ride a short travel bike just because you think it's faster if it's not comfortable. As far as the Pro class goes, I know a number of people have won it, and I want to say more guys have won it on full size DH bikes than shorter travel bikes.
If your talking "retail" there are probably $4000 in parts on the bike. I'd say fork, cranks, brakes and wheels, at "retail" are probably almost $3000.
I'm getting back into racing this season and just purchased the 661 pro pressure suit, and I'm very impressed with it. The pads are very low profile and it is quite comfortable. The whole thing with restricting movement is really kind of bogus. How much does your upper body even move while...
Interesting to see, while not your typical DH race, Cedric was 10 seconds ahead of 2nd and 14 ahead of Smith in 3rd. That's quite the time gap no matter what kind of course when it is only 2.5 minutes long.
Just took a look over the Diablo site as I plan on doing the entire series. Definitely a little pricey at $85 to race and ride for the weekend, but that isn't much more than many other places, and you at least have a vast amount of terrain if you want to ride something different.
Now looking...
