I can not eat 'real' food in the heat. I stick to stuff like fruit snacks or clifbloks. I dislike gels and would rather have something to chew.
Most any light should be able to do both bars or helmet. I'm thinking about picking up a light and motion Urban 850 Trail. It'll do both. $150 suggested retail.

I have a 510, and it is more sturdy than you would think. I've actually smacked it into a tree on a tech descent. I run it on the stem now so it is protected from front impacts. The 510 has a tether so if it should fall off, which it never has, I won't lose it.
If you planning on using one for running, I wouldn't get an edge.
You would have to be pretty blind not to be able to see the display on a 500 series edge. I wouldn't mind the map capability, but if your routes are set then not much use for it. I use the turn by turn quite a bit exploring...
