    Brain Fade: good or bad

So I XC mountain bike and once in a while race (xc as well). I am looking into buying an 08 stumpjumper pro or expert and am wondering how well the '08 brain suspension system works. What are the pros and cons? Basically I am looking for a review since I cannot find one anywhere. Thanks for...

    SRAM derailleur hierarchy?

Does anyone know the hierarchy of SRAM rear derailleurs? (a list of their derailleurs from worst to best). I do not know SRAM stuff at all. Predominantly, is a X-0 or X-9 the better rear derailleur and how much better is it?

    Suggested height

Thanks for the info. I don't actually know much about custom-making my own bikes. I mostly just find one i like/are recommended, buy it, and ride it.

    Riding bikes kicks ass. [o]

Ahaha I love the use of your pedals as a bottle opener. Genius!!! I'm gonna have to try that some time.

    Suggested height

I want to get a new bike, which may or may not happen in the near future and am looking into 29ers. I hear the frame geometry sucks for us *cough* vertically challenged people. What is the suggested minimum height to be for 29er owners? I am a whopping 5' 4.5" tall.

    thoughts on Voodoo frames

I've never used one myself but a couple of my friends have and they love them. I haven't really heard of them having any problems with them and they are pretty sturdy.

    Clipless or platform pedals?

I'm pretty sure that the general consensus of everyone i talked to is that platforms are better for DH and clipless are without a doubt better for XC. I mostly XC and love clipless. You can get much more power and very rarely loose footing.

I guess im not very balanced...

yea balance balls are great. Also, you can buy a stirdy foam pad, and have some one throw a ball towards you (but not directly at you) and try to catch it without moving your feet. I dont know what they are called but they make pads especially for this use. Also you can do it old school way...

    Lower back pain

I used to get lower back pain all the time, after every ride. After a while, it stopped though as I rode more and more often. Your body may just has to get used to working in that position and your muscles may have to strengthen in specific areas as you use them differently.

    the brain

hmm so the overall consensus is that it is good, but there are better options?

    the brain

anyone have Specialized's Brain suspension? I'm curious how well it works. I am looking into getting a nice new bike and watched a clip on their suspension system and it seems interesting. Looking for some feedback. Thanks.

    Disk (Mech or Hydro) Brakes

I personally would not want hydros for my mtn bike. While it may not happen all that often, it is fairly easy to pop a line and when it does it sucks. I was riding a pretty technical ride that had a lot of steep ups and downs when one of my friend's lines popped causing him to have no rear...

    Intense Spider FRO

looks good, but i'm not a fan of the color...though it might just be the lighting.

    Pronghorn Racing

yea actually, pronghorn does explain why they did this. According to their engineers it is more efficient and you don't lose quite as much power/energy with each pedal stroke.

    Arantix Carbon-Kevlar Isotruss frame

wow that is nuts. I'd love to ride it for a while just to see if it actually does hold up in the long-run. It's still wayyy too expensive though. PS I hate spiders...

    Any XC connecticut races?

Does anyone know of any XC races in connecticut or close-to like MA or RI? I haven't been able to find any other than the Root 66 series but that's in the spring.

    protection

thanks for the info! I guess I have to save up some cash. True u can't put a price on life lol. I just don't know how often I'm gonna go, probably only a few times a year because I mostly keep to the cross country stuff.

    Work outs

thanks! I totally forgot about lunges with weights. I was thinking of doing a box. I went to a track workout with my club running team and we did 1.5 min mountain climbers in 400m runs and I think those are very useful. I'm gonna have to find a big box somewhere...or use my dorm chair.

    protection

I went DH for the first time ever at Killington. It was great and I loved it and will probably go again sometime. What is recommended for protection? Should I wear full body gera or just helmet and shin/knee pads? I dont usually go off cliffs or large jumps; I just stay on the technical...
